I cant seem to automate in the Mi Home app any of my Xiaomi/Aqara smart switches to execute any operation what so ever through the Xiaomi IR controller. The controller works great through Mi Home app and the smart switches control the lights etc. perfectly but I cant seems to pair between the switches and IR controller. Nothing happens.

When i buy Xiaomi Aqara Wall Switch and connect with conbee 2, can i control a normal Light bulb (not the ikea or philips hue ) or do i need really buy also a smart light bulb and connect that also with conbee 2 ?

I have the double wall switch version (with neutral) connected to my zigbee2mqtt usb dongle which works perfect for replacing my old switch. There is no need to replace the lights. Actually, combining these might become awkward and result in lights not being available due to them having no power.

You could wire the light to be always on, however I think in some countries this is not allowed as far as I know and anyway if you have no clue about electricity, I highly recommend to NOT touch the wiring in your home!

To test it I just connected the N cable (fortunately there was one behind the switch) and changed the cables that were connected to the old switch to the Lin and Lout of the SonOff. And put new cables from the old switch to the SonOff. Everything worked as expected.

I have found a new video on youtube but and it should be possible at this manner with tasmota what i want. But the last question is really if it is possible to place the sonoff behind the switch at this manner. Then should be the problem solved.

I have installed Sonoff mini behind the switch inside the wall. They also have a tiny wifi sensor that sticks out of Sonoff mini for wifi signal that you can leave hanging outside the traditional wall switch plate.

As someone mentioned above, it is connected with power all the time. If the traditional switch button is on by staying down and you turn it off on the app, the traditional light switch button will stay down while the lights being off. If we toggle the traditional switch button up then lights will turn on and the switch will stay in up position.

Despite some of the challenges that both Aqara - and consumers that use their products - have faced over the last couple of years, this hasn't stopped them from continuing to add devices and functionality

Many thanks for the (as usual) super-thorough overview and details on disassembly (dissection?!) You have echoed the same disappointing findings about the really difficult-to-replace battery as I read in the Homekit News review: Based on that,...

Until new versions of the switches are released that have easy-to-replace batteries, and there is more information on whether they are truly following the ZigBee 3.0 specification, I do not have any plans to buy one to make a DTH.

I managed to pair the Aqara Opple switch with ST using the device handler from However, when I add the device it acts very strangely, pressing the buttons controls all Zigbee lamps and bulbs in my house, absolutely all devices turns on/off, changes color temp etc.

NOTE: Although Xiaomi / Aqara devices are used by many users with great success, Xiaomi / Aqara Zigbee devices are NOT officially supported on HE. Why new drivers? Xiaomi / Aqara drivers was something I wanted to write my own version of. Since...

So, I have converted to Hubitat, and the Opple works beautifully there, I have even expanded with a few more of the Opple in my system. When that is said, Smartthings and Hubitat device drivers are very similar, and most of my own Smartthings drivers worked out of the box on Hubitat. I wonder if that could be the other way around as well, here is the Hubitat driver I used for my Opple (the first one in the list):

Here I can only guess, but the biggest differences are around the Zigbee and hub action commands, and my gut feel is telling me that the oppleInit code is what is missing from the Smartthings device driver:

Blueprint to support the Aqara Opple Wireless Scene Switch 4 Button . The buttons support: Single press Double press Triple press Long (hold) Long release Screen: Blueprint to import: blueprint: name: deCONZ - Aqara Opple - Wireless 4...

Yeelight Smart Bluetooth Wireless Dimmer Wall Light Switch Remote Control Xiaomi Aqara makes a smart home gateway hub that has support for a variety of were the Aqara firewire switches they worked with a custom DTH straight into Some of the smart buttons such as the Aqara Opple and Philips Hue Smart.

I know there are other drivers available but I put this together because I wanted to reduce the plethora of drivers for these devices and to simplify the code since the functionality of these devices are generally hard-coded in the firmware without the possibility of further configuration.

Cool! Very nice work! I did some testing with all my sensor's and i can confirm that: Xiaomi motion sensors, Aqara motion sensors, aqara temperature and humidity sensors, xiaomi contact sensors and aqara contact sensors works like a charm. Xiaomi smart button (Mi wireless switch, model: WXKG01LM) doesn't work...

I got two Aqara Temperature sensors (WSDCGQ11LM) today. One for inside and one for outside. (I know they are not made for outside use). I reset them and installed the "Xiaomi/Aquara Combined Driver" and put one outside. It's about -3.0 C (26.6 F) now. As soon as the sensor passed 0 C (32F) it jumped to 654.96 C.
I took it back in and let it get back to room temperature and then I put both in the freezer to see if they read the same. At 0 C both jumped to about 655 C.
Not saying it's the drivers, I haven't tried any other yet. Just thought I would mention it.

They're not very reliable on reporting their battery (voltage). You cannot force them to update it through zigbee commands as you can with others. They ought to report it every hour but sometimes, nothing. When that happens, it can sometimes take a few goes at re-pairing them to get them to report regularly.

EDIT: I just unwrapped a brand new open/close sensor. The first pair didn't report the battery either. I then paired it again (no need to remove the device first) and it then started reporting battery voltage (3.06v)
