Dear Partners,
Please find the news clipping appeared in todays (14th July)
Deshabhimani daily. Please read the attachment first.
Mr. Kidar Muhammad, Ward Councillor, Palakkad Municipality, mentioned
in the news clipping is the man who played a major role in getting the
election identity cards for our stakeholders. But the news paper has
pictured this as a measure for political defamation.
When we approached him on behalf of these stakeholders for election
identity cards, he had voluntarily given his address details in the
application. It is a mandatory that, application should contain the
address details whereas most of them have no house or address details
because they are street based sex workers. So far we have distributed
as many as 53 election identity cards to the most at-risk
stakeholders. This remarkable achievement has made positive changes to
the life of these stakeholders to a great extent.
Last week, on 24th June 2010, the Municipality authorities conducted
their verification of 14 new applications in the address mentioned at
Kunnathurmedu where our office was located in the past.
Facts being so, we would like to intervene in this issue as this year
also, we are trying to get election identity cards to the rest of the
street based sex workers as far as possible.
So i invite your attention on this issue and reply back a way how to
respond (it is highly sensible as this is a political issue) as this
is a serious concern for our project and the stakeholders as a whole.
At this juncture, we express our solidarity to him as this will affect
the ongoing and future endeavors.
I appreciate your effort in reading this mail.
Please find the press cutting as attachment.
