Losing the will to live here. I Have Sonos Beam Gen2 and I cannot have any sound other than stereo pcm. My tv is PHILIPS - 50PUS7855 50" 4K . I have a hdmi 4k cable. I am using both the standard TV, Netflix and 4k blu Ray player and they're all playing stereo pcm only. I have set the audio to multichannel (bypass). Why is this happening?
Multichannel bypass is fine. Presumably you have enabled EasyLink (CEC) control too. Have you disabled the internal TV speakers and set the sound-out to Auto or Dolby Audio - Also (importantly), are you playing a Dolby audio source. Eg. A movie or show from Apps such as Netflix/Amazon Movies/Disney+ etc?
Hi, thanks for your reply. I can confirm yes to all of the above except tv speakers off. The options are hdmi sound system or TV speakers off, it only works if I have hdmi sound system selected. What else could it be?
Tried on Netflix, sky, and 4k blu Ray player with dolby selected within the settings of the blu Ray player. All has the same result. When I initially setup a few weeks ago I did see dolby 5 in the sonos app but I can't for the life of me get it to return. I would be happy with that even if I can't get dolby atmos. I didn't pay this money to listen to stereo
I have the same kind of phillips tv The sound personal modes are for the Tv speakers. When the TV speakers are off they will naturally be greyed out due to HDMI sound system being connected because now yr tv is outputting sound to an external audio system
multichannel option does is encode audio to common format like 5.1 or ac3.. watever yr soundbar understands
Multichannel ( bypass) does not re encode the source audio but sends out the bitstream to the soundbar or receiver. If u choose DD+ or atmos and u choose bypass option but yr soundbar do not have DD+ or atmos , u will have no sound because the Receiver in yr soundbar does not understand these formats when its sent the bitstream
the last option stereo uncompressed sends 2 channel PCM to the soundbar ( i am not sure if the tv somehow re encodes or downmixes dolby to stereo ect>)
Since HDMI ARC cant do 5.1 /7.1 uncompressed multichannel PCM ( LPCM) ony stereo uncompressed is possible

Roku TV remotes, which are made by third parties -- Phillips in your case -- use infrared controls. If there is dust or other foreign substances inside the remote causing the contacts to engage, you can get stray button presses without actually pressing a button. Try blowing out the remote with compressed air if possible.
If stray button actions are happening, does removing the batteries stop it? And if so, does putting the batteries back in cause them to resume? If so, then either dust/dirt is causing contacts to close unexpectedly, or there is a fault in the remote. Contact Phillips if that's the case. Roku didn't build the device, simply provided the software in the device Phillips built. Or take the batteries out and use a Roku Voice Remote to control the TV. (I know, a solution where you spend $20 is not an ideal solution.)
If removing the batteries does not impact the actions -- that is, they happen anyway -- then stray infrared signals could be the problem. If the problems are limited to certain times of the day, then outside light (which does include infrared) could be the cause. A perfect storm of circumstances that result in stray light signals (invisible infrared light) causing it. Close the drapes. Does that make a difference?
I have a Philips 43" Roku TV model #43PFL5756/F7 A and haven't had any issues until today. I go to my HDMI 1 port to play Xbox and everything is fine for a bit then BOOM! I get sent back to the home screen. Right before I typed this it went back to home screen again bit then started going through different channels like it was going crazy and then it stopped. just bought this TV a few weeks ago. what the heck is going on with it?
Could you tell us how are you powering your Roku device? Is it connected to the USB port of the TV or to a wall outlet? In some cases, the USB power provided by the TV is not sufficient to power the device. Even though your Roku device may appear to be working, running with insufficient power can lead to instability, crashing, and other unpredictable behavior.
Using the included power cord and power adapter, we suggest plugging your Roku into a working power outlet in the wall. Powering it through a power outlet in the wall has the additional advantage that your Roku player will not need to power up every time you turn on your TV. This means your Roku player will be up and running faster than it would be connected to a TV.
We do not have enough details from your original message to make an effective suggestion. Could you tell us more about your concern? Does the issue only occur on a specific channel or all channels installed on your Roku TV?
For me, personally.. it happens when I'm watching the ID Go app on my Roku TV. My husband asked me why it would switch back to the main menu while in the middle of watching a show. I figured we were accidentally hitting a button on the remote while watching TV in bed. But now, it is happening almost every time I watch a show. I'm not sure if it is just this app or not because I've only been watching this app for a while now. I am currently watching now and it keeps happening at each commercial break. Instead of breaking to a commercial like it used to, it goes back to the main menu.
So I got some mixed results with sound codecs working and not working. All in all I am very surprised that in some cases there is no sound at all and especially with Netflix and Amazon Prime that is very disappointing.
Your results appear to line up - a Bluesound Home Theatre Group is a 5 channel group, so it would not be able to play 7.1 audio (though I'm surprised DTS-HD 7.1 worked? I don't think it should have) and ATMOS support has not quite yet been released to the SB+.
Ok, let me get this clear: this really is an official statement and my experiences in hearing no sound at all are to be expected? So I have a soundbar that is not able to do it's one job: producing sound?
How is it possible that it cannot process some of the most standard audio codecs used in movies and series? It shouldn't matter that it is only a 5 channel group. I had only 4 speakers (no center) attached to my Onlyo receiver. It just translated the input sound to those 4 channels. Nothing fancy, even my TV can translate the sound from any input to stereo.
Allow me to explain in more detail: your Onkyo is capable of 7.2. It does not matter how many speakers you connect to the Onkyo, the Onkyo receiver itself is capable of decoding 7.2 channel audio. Your TV may also be equipped to recognise and then downsample/remix Dolby 7.1 audio as Stereo PCM.
The BLS Home Theatre Group is capable of 5.1, and it does not downsample any incoming audio (as to preserve the quality); so when sending audio that the HTG cannot recognise (i.e. 7.1 or another codec), no decoding can be done and you will not receive audio. Alternatively, when sending a signal the HTG can recognise (ie 5.1), it will play audio.
That being said, there are variables we haven't accounted for. Depending on devices, the source device might be correctly identifying the lack of support and converts to a supported format. ie PCM, which is why you're seeing DTS 7.1 working.
I hope this clears things up better. The details are nitty-gritty but it might help to Help > Send Support Request and include your source device (the device where the Netflix and Amazon Video content is coming out of firstly) so they can more explain in better detail.
That still doesn't explain why I hear no sound with Netlix and Amazom, because they output a 5.1 sound which shouldn't be a problem. By the way: you can add Disney on the list of streaming services with no audio.
And I really can't understand how you can sell a Dolby Atmos soundbar and then say that 'ATMOS support has not quite yet been released'. That is just false advertising, it is one the reasons I chose this soundbar in the first place!
