However, after some exploring I found there were some additional setting in the tv's advanced sound settings that had not activated, ... I changed them to dolby digital plus and pass through and it seems to have worked!
Thanks Ben. I think the setting I found for PCM that I set to auto has done the trick. I am now seeing Dolby for Netflix 5.1 movies. Still saw Stereo PCM for Dolby Atmos demos on YouTube but they may be my slow internet connection
This is brilliant thank you, I have the same tv and soundbar and couldn't figure out why it was only pcm 2.0. It was driving me mad.. changed my audio settings to pass through in the LG and left the digital plus option to auto and its working perfectly. Thank you!
I'm pretty sure that only matters for the internal speakers.. Once the audio is set to pass through.. the TV let's the sound bar do all the work and allows the app to speak directly with with soundbar.. im no expert but that's what I took from it.. mine is greyed out but set to on.. if it was bothering you, you could try change the audio output to TV internal speaker, turn it on.. then change the audio back to e-arc and it should grey out but be set to on.. but I don't think it matters, the sonos system tells you what signal its outputting and if you go to the sonos app and click settings, then system, then about my system and scroll down you should see what audio format each speaker is receiving... again I'm no expert but that's what I picked up googling stuff and this forum.
To check for sure.. search 'atmos' on netflix. It will give you all the dolby atmos titles.. pick one, let it play and go check your sonos app. As long as you see it in both places in the app then you're fine. Here's what I see when I watch 'our planet' on netflix in dolby vision-atmos.
When apple tv 4k is blocked in pcm stereo, i just "turn off" normally the apple tv. I wait 30 seconds to be sure apple tv, tv and sonos are in stand by mode. After this i turn on apple tv with official remote and now it's works !!!
We have no TV, just a projector (beamer) with Apple TV for movies (stereo only) and such and the Naim system for Stereo. Until today, signals from the Apple TV over Hdmi to the Denon AVR (AV Receiver), the AV Bypass over Naim and video hdmi to the projector. We have no other devices that make use of the Avr.
Now I installed the Nd5xs2, with Airplay 2 functionality. When watching films, the Apple Tv sends the audio over Airplay2 to the Nd5xs2 and we hook up the Apple Tv directly for video signal into the projector.
It also works as an AirPlay hub, as this thread started out - giving you an easy way to get all that content playing through your AirPlay 2-supporting products, including many from Naim (original Mu-so and Mu-so Qb, Mu-so and Mu-so Qb 2nd Generation, ND5 XS2, NDX-2 and ND 555)
No, just a couple of small ones. We store all our movie rips on a nas running plex and have installed the plex client on the apple tv. Our first appletv was to add some smart functionality to a non-smart bedroom tv, another soon followed for the main tv as it was so useful.
Also most streaming services, netflix etc, have apps for it so you a not reliant on the tv manufacturers to keep their software up to date.
The storage on current AppleTVs is for downloadable apps and their data, some of which, especially games, can eat up storage. Some storage is also used for downloadable screensavers and system services.

I Airplay to the Nova from AppleTV 4k when using a projector. I have had lip sync issues in the past which are not easy to remedy, unless something has changed. I am quite sensitive to this though, but have not used my Yamaha AV processor for several years which would probably help.
Interesting and nice to know I am not alone in using it like this. Lip sync: no issues so far, I am also sensitive to this, but I thought both nd5xs2 and Atv have abilities on this, I will check. [Edit: have checked, unfortunately not possible on either Atv nor Nd5xs2]
The default audio is bothering me as well, hope they correct this. Sound over hdmi has not occurred yet, that would be very annoying. I use infuse for local files, stream sports over airplay from my ipad and netflix for the rest, no issues so far.
One of the better things Apple have done in recent years is to offer free 4k upgrades of 1080p movie purchases where available - good enough for watching on the Samsung 4k TV. Alas the projector is 1080p, cheap but still one of the best vfm purchases ever.
Between a fairly large catalogue of iTunes purchases, Netflix/PrimeTV/Britbox and iTunes there is always plenty to watch, I just wish there was an easier way of navigating many of the streaming services apps.
Hdmi audio extractors and such perhaps? If I end up being unhappy with my current wonderful solution I might end up with that. Really dislike using a massive Avr with soso sound and too many options for just stereo audio from apple tv.
I've noticed since beta one on the ATV4k that the audio has stearted curtting out regularly for about 3 seconds and about every 10-15 minutes. It started out being once in a while, now it's regularly across all streaming apps (netflix, amazon, disneynow, nickjr, plex).
I have too. See post right below this one. the audio drops are a little longer in the current beta but I see they now have it designated as a bug in the Release Notes. For anyone else posting, it helps to paste your bug report number in the posts. It gets more attention from the devs.
Remember it's a Beta so its use at one's own risk but I can say that if you were to contact iTunes support they will generally refund when you ask politely and explain your position even after the fact. But I had the same experience for two weeks before this was fixed and realized wholly that this is just what it is.
Just updated to the latest firmware to fix the audio dropping for a second once every two minutes or so. Then it started happening once every minute or the sound would completely shut off or become warped and garbled.
Found tons of recommendations of changing audio/video settings, playing non-Atmos content to go back to play Atmos content, even found found recommending switching the video frequency (Hz). Nothing works. I have two Apple 4Ks. One hooked up to just a TV that this does not happen with. The one that it happens with is the one sending signal through a Dolby Atmos receiver with a Dolby Atmos speaker setup. Super annoying. Took 2.5 hours to watch a 1.5 hour movie and ended up just watching it on the TV sound only setup. Why do I have a +$5,000 speaker system setup if I can't use it?
WILSON: Consumers today are capitalizing on AI, IoT, mixed reality, and other emerging technologies. These forces exert tremendous pressure on marketing organizations to reinvent themselves for the future. The question is, are brands and consumers ready?
This podcast series will answer that question and many others as we consider the future of customer experience and marketing. Thanks, everyone, for joining us on this first episode of Reimagine Marketing. I'm joined by my co-hosts Steven Hofmans and Justin Theng. Welcome, guys.
WILSON: Now as you get to know us, we will provide sort of our viewpoints on how this show is going to unfold for the rest of the series. So we're going to start with Steven Hofmans. And I find that the best way to get into someone's perspective is to ask them for their favorite or one of their memorable quotes that helps shape their craft. So Steven, by way of intro, what is your quote and tell us a little bit about yourself.
STEVEN HOFMANS: So I've worked like for seven years for a marketing technology provider and I've seen many industries implementing marketing technology and trying to take the best of it. And one of my favorite quotes is, "A fool with a tool is still a fool." And the reason why is because I really see a lot of companies invest in different kind of hypes and innovation.
And for me, you have two type of motivational factors that decide to work with innovation. You have the companies that really understand how they can take advantage of market innovation and improve customer experience and really create value out of it. And these are the companies that when they're launched-- when they launch, for example a chatbot, it really can answer your questions, artificial-intelligence driven, and it improves customer experience and brings down the cost to serve.
Then you have the companies that invest in innovation because their competitors are having it. And those are the chatbots that refer you to the call center after one or two questions. Where the problem is, they were not able to take advantage of the marketing innovation that happens and they were not able to translate that really into customer experience improvement. And often in reality, the technology gets the blame. So my advice there is always wonder if it's the technology that needs to be changed or the business that needs to change.
