Hi Sweta

Thanks for your introducing. So which year did you graduate? I have
long been out of touch with the TISS crowd...so who is the HOD of
criminology these days?

Let me know how is your experience in the phd program?

Hi Nyashi

It was nice knowing about you too. So are you working in Philadelphia
as well? I read that MHA doctors are working very hard in Mumbai
during these flood times. That was very ccomforting. I will look
forward to knowing more about you.

thanks

Hi Everyone

When I applied to CSWE for authorization my MSW degree they asked me
to furnish the supporting documents directly through TISS, though I
know previously people had sent them on their own. I dont know who in
TISS deals with all that if anybody has any idea kindly share that
with me. I have gone through two levels of screening paying $10 for
the first screening and $200 for the final application. I have the
transcript and other documents (original and attested copies) with me,
however, it seems last August CSWE has changed their policy and is
only considering applications with supporting documents coming
directly from the Institutions.

I thought of sharing this information with you all.

thanks

Hi Dhrubo,

You will have to get in touch with the Academic Adminstration Dept at
TISS. The Asst. Registrar (Academic) handles this kind of stuff. Maybe
you could get his name from tiss.edu and email/ call him. You could
also talk to the lady who works for him -- Gita (dont remember her
last name). I remember she was really helpful during my time at TISS,
and get my transcripts done on time too.

Hope this helps.
Rima

Thanks Rima for the info. How are you? haven't heard from you in ages.

Another thing, the recent IUCISD conference held in Brazil. Some of
our professors at University of South Carolina had been there, I heard
from them that there are two persons from TISS who had participated.
One faculty named Naila Kabeer (spelling??) another student/alumni
named Suryakant. I could not find their profile at TISS website. If
anybody have any idea do let me know because I am working on a
database on the participants. Especially Dolly, you have been there,
let the group know how was it.

thanks

Hello All,

I'm from the 2001 batch of URCD and am currently in the Phd program in Social Work at WashU. I remember it was Gita ma'am, Mr. Gimonkar and Mr. Shinde who handled transcripts at TISS, I think Rima is right about the administrative unit. Gita and Gimonkar did most of the paperwork though so they should be contacted.
I bumped into Neela Dabir at the IUCISD conference but am not sure which department she's in, perhaps FCW or MPSW. I think she might've earlier been at Karve/Nirmala Niketan. Met Suryakant too who was my classmate (URCD 2001), he has joined the SWA department as permanent faculty this year.

Yes, Suryakant and Qudsiya are married, Qudsiya was our batchmate in MPSW.
Dhrubo also wanted info on the conference. There were excellent plenaries on social policy, healthcare, the environment, adolescents and reproductive health. I got the impression that most participants were from Latin America (esp. Puerto Rico and Brazil), India and the United States. There were others from Kenya, UK, South Africa, Japan, China and the Philippines. IUCISD has field visits to local NGOs in every conference, and there were visits to organic farms, fishing commuities, protective homes for children. There's a lot of racial mixing in Brazil and a range of original races but so much intermixing across the board that it's hard to identify any 'types' any more. there's social equality to a large extent, respect for menial workers, etc.

Thanks Dolly for the information. Is there anybody else from TISS or
India had been to the Brazil conference Dolly?

IUCISD, by the way, is not limited to social work professionals only,
it defines social development in larger context, so people working in
the areas of public health, hospital and health administration, human
resource management and social policy can get involved with IUCISD.
The next conference of IUCISD is going to be held in China (2007).
People who are interested can visit www.iucisd.org for more
information. Dr Frank Raymond, ex-dean of University of South Carolina
is going to chair the conference.

thanks

There was Bina Thomas from the Indian Council of Medical Research who I met very briefly, and two faculty from Karve Institute, Nagmani Rao (TISS alumnus) and Ujwala Mansdekar.
