Dear Friends,
I am Anup, a PhD scholar here at TISS. I am writing this email with regard to the upcoming election for the post of Research Scholar Secretary; the voting for which is to be held on the 11th of July, 2014 (Friday).
Considering the need for representing the growing number of MPhil/PhD scholars here at TISS, the position of the Research Scholar Secretary-as the representative of the MPhil/PhD scholars- is an important position. The importance increases all the more in view of the various difficulties which have been faced by many of us.
In consideration of such factors, there are a bare minimum of points which I believe must be carried out by the elected Research Scholar Secretary. In accordance with which I have listed below as well as attached an agenda which I would seek to carry out if elected with your support:
Agenda for the post of Research Scholar Secretary
1. Fellowship: Ensure the timely payment of non-NET fellowship for research scholars (Rs 5000/- for MPhil and Rs 8000/- for PhD), as well as ensure the timely payment of JRF, ICSSR, RGNF, GoI and other fellowships/scholarships
2. End the daily signing of attendance register
3. Hostel Facilities: Ensure the provision of hostels and try for easing the congested hostel space for MPhil students
4. Fees: End arbitrary charges and increases of the fees paid by students (Tuition, DH, Development fee, etc), and specifically ensure that such decisions are not imposed without prior notice and discussion.
5. With regards to the current issue of fee payment, trying to gain an extension for the payment of fee for this semester, so that the issues regarding the fee payment can be discussed with the administration.
6. Administrative: Ensure that there is better coordination between the DSO, various secretariats and students, as well as with the accounts section (especially regarding the payment of scholarships)
7. Conducting pre-admission orientation (for SC/ST/OBC/PWD/Minority) for MPhil/PhD students
8. Working towards increasing teaching assistant-ship positions for research scholars
9. Creating a database of fellowships and providing a booklet of information on how to avail these and what procedures are to be followed and what documents are used where and when to all the scholars.
10. Starting a discussion on the pros and cons of the tracking system and make it more student friendly.
Please do consider my candidature and vote for me. I promise to work for all of us.
For your patient reading and in anticipation of your support, I thank you.
Warm Regards,
Anup
