Dear Ma'am,

I appreciate that logistics issue was brought to our notice regarding the seating arrangements for the parents of the graduating students (2011-13 batch). I do understand the limitation of enough space for the gathering but I disagree with the decision which is been taken to tackle that.

I personally felt a bit embarrassed and insulted, not because I am not a topper or a award holder rather because of the reason that in an institution alike TISS where we have been taught to reduce the differences irrespective of whatever reason it is. On other hand this mail directly indicates that due to certain reason a "specific group" will be given preference against the majority.

Ma'am, I believe that you will agree with the fact that TISS is an institution where "values, ideas and motivation to make difference in the society" are given more priority than individual capability of scoring marks and acquiring awards. But I am afraid that this particular decision will leave the majority of the students with an impression that they are not a topper or rank holder.

Bringing your attention to the suggestion given to the students, "to inform their parents in advance about the circular" makes an impression that this institution has been for the toppers and the rank holders only. And what the other majority will say to their parents? That since your daughter/ Son is not an award holder you will be not allowed inside the venue. I am sure no one will. Than what, they will certainly lie or will make an excuse so that their parent doesn’t come for the Convocation. I know this mail would look appear as an emotional reaction of a student but I am sure that these questions will come across every students once they end up reading the circular.

I am writing this mail not to express my grief. It’s my honest attempt to bring to your notice that decision alike this would somewhere affect the core value of the institution and more significantly will confine the self belief and motivation of the students.

Sincerely
