Hi,

We have FINALLY been given the go ahead to create a FB page for my System (I've been begging for this).  So I'm reading up on the best way to go about it.  It seems you must FIRST have a personal account before creating a page.  So, my question is this.  Do you just attach this to your personal account?  I couldn't create a personal account for our system itself, it's too smart and I couldn't trick it.  Any advice is, as always, most welcome.

Thanks,
Stephanie Zimmerman

Steph, I would use your account to eyeball each of the accounts of the
different libraries on FB.

You can create a page and add folks as administrators for your page as
needed. As for the page surviving you leaving facebook, that IDK, but
you could contact fb directly and see what they say.

Facebook accounts are tied to the personal account of the individual that creates them. There is no way for that person to step down from management of the page. Which means if that person leaves for any reason they are still the admin for your page.  I strongly advice against tying the account of your organization to an individual employee no matter how awesome you think that person is.  There is no way for you to remove them from the page or for them to remove themselves.

I've written several posts about it

http://librarianbyday.net/2009/05/libraries-think-twice-about-a-facebook-page/

What I did for my library is create a fake account for a historical figure associated with the library (fyi - this is a violation of facebook TOS) then used that account to create the page, then promoted myself & a couple of others to admins. That way if/when I leave I can be removed & the password for the fake account can be handed over to someone else.
