I'm having a difficult time with this book, I'm not sure why. I'm very familiar with Chicago and a lot of it's history so this part of the book I like. I do like some of the character descriptions, especially his grandmother. Don't we all know someone like her?
I feel that alot of the other words are all hubris. Augie is not very educated so how does he come up with all these, I'm not sure of the word I want to use, grandiose descriptions? I'm still plugging away but slow. I finished the "Angle of Repose" and truly liked it. Oliver is a man of the time and I'm not sure that if I had talent and the ability to take care of myself that I might not be alot like Susan. Not in the way she disparages him but in her drifting away from the relationship and of her love. His taciturn manner is difficult for her, he knows it, yet just dismisses it as who he is, and doesn't try to be more involved. His assuming that she knows he loves her is good enough for him. It's a tragic story that has no winners, no one succeeds to the best of their ability and that includes the author. I'll put this book near the top of my list. Beth, this is for you, Boiler Up!

I'm struggling with Augie a bit, too, but I'm starting to get a little
more into it. Augie is well-read, and is working on the books he got
from Einhorn, so I think there's a little more to his story than we're
seeing just yet. Enough to keep me reading!

LOL I thought of the Lindsey family today, wondering where the
loyalties would lie! I bet Marc is psyched for the game!
