I promised this and tried to save transcript but it didn't work out. I
even tried falling back on low tech tried and true: copy/paste, but I
got a failure message before I could hit control + C. If anyone
attending saved a session transcript, please send me a copy.
Briefly - from skimpy notes made from memory, Week 4 live session
questions/ discussion areas covered:
marking
revision
editing/proof-reading vs proofreading
using codes for marking and editing checklists
peer review / writing groups
specific problems =
culturally specific writing conventions and genres
translating literally & classes with same L1
levels
mixed classes
Most of the session focus was on adapting and using peer review and
writing groups to ESL classes of different levels and ages. Despite
early (pre-live session) discussion interest in automated grading, it
was not a central topic. Those trying out the few free versions
available online found them disappointing.
I'd like to hear more from anyone working with writing groups and peer
review. How is working for you? What adaptations have you made? What
cautions would you offer other teachers?
