Greetings all. Welcome to Week 4 Tips & Tricks discussion of teaching
teaching writing, emphasis on management, review, feedback and
evaluation - otherwise known as marking and grading. This is a large,
complex and thorny subject to be sure - no way to cover it adequately
in a single week. Rhetoricians and pedagogues writes volumes on
subsets of the topic.
I have not gotten to setting up a survey but hope to. In the meantime,
let me remind you of Week 4 information in Pages and readings/
resources in Files.
READINGS: There are too many reading to slog through the entire lot. I
For now, I'd recommend picking 1-2 in each area (automated assessment
or AWE, peer editing, responding to and marking writing). During
discussion, please share your response to the articles, web sites,
handouts, etc. you have read. Maybe we can make the readings more
manageable with crowdsourcing.
DISCUSSION: I'll post ONE question at a time for ease of following -
starting immediately after posting this welcome. Although not
"officially" a "discussion topic," please comment.
ACTIVITIES: I have several in mind, already mention on Week 4 Pages.
We're all busy, so there won't more than 1-2 for you to do and post a
brief written report on. An online collaborative peer reading/review
group would be interesting but might not be manageable
LIVE SESSION: Sunday @ the usual time; 4 pm GMT, Venue TBA. Feedback
and suggestions invited but will most likely in StudyCom One, YM or
Tapped In. WiZiQ. splendid features not withstanding, is a pain you
know where to use on dial-up. I'd hoped to test Google Chat but
problems there turned me off. KISS rules.
