I appreciate your response and I understand that you are not setting the pricing. But at over $3,000 per year ArtCam Priemum appears to be the most expensive subscription AutoDesk is selling and AutoDesk has some very powerful software.
I note that smart engraving and a number of relief features in Insignia do not appear in Standard. I'm not sure whether the model resolution is also less in one axis. I really can't see what has happened to rotary models.
As the holder of a current Insignia maintenance agreement, which I renewed because of some of these now removed features, I sincerely hope that Autodesk translates me to a version that maintains the functionality I paid for. If the Autodesk marketers are smart they will translate Insignia holders to Premium and hope we get addicted to the increased functionality before our maintenance agreement is up. If, on the other hand, we lose out on features Insignia was sold to us on (in my case winning out over Vectric), I worry that Artcam may go the way of so many good products that were taken over by bigger interests.
I understand that there were versions originated by Delcam and the names changed when Autodesk rebranded them, but when looking at the very extensive set of old help videos it would be very helpful to know which new Autodesk version I would need to have access to a specific feature.
No, AC Standard does not = AC Pro and AC Insignia does not = AC Premium. If anything AC Standard is close to AC Insignia but there are a few features (or so I gather) of Insignia that are missing from Standard. AC Premium appears to be more or less AC Jewelsmith but again with a few features that JS had missing. To determine which version you would be best off with I would suggest you speak to a reseller. In North America I believe that would be Scott Ingram 877-335-2261
I saw that features like Z level roughing and smart engraving are only included in the AC Premium version. These seem like necessary features for 3D carving and signmaking for 3D routers. I am worried that the standard version will not adequately support some of the basic toolpaths and 3D creation tools I need. But the posted license fee for the AC Premium version is crazy high ($3,005/year).
I'm going to need more specific information, as for me the decision to stay within the ArtCam suite is going to come down to features. If a feature I have now in Insignia will not be in Standard, then, for me, the direct comparison for Insignia, regarding that feature, is ArtCam Premium. It doesn't work from a business sense to say 'closer to'.
Further to @JTHorrigan's post, many thanks for your kind words of support too. I hope that the advice you're receiving is something that factors into your decision regarding which company and product to invest in.
Yes, I expect you'll be able to use exactly the same method of creating lithographs in ArtCAM Standard 2017 as you would've used in legacy ArtCAM software. If you provide me with information regarding the process you use, then I'll be happy to check each stage.
I was also told that the 30 day return policy at AutoDesk would allow me to purchase a 30 day license for AC Standard and then get a refund so I could purchase the 1 year license if it does all I need. Did I understand that correctly?
You can cancel an existing monthly subscription to ArtCAM Standard 2017, and then start a new annual subscription to ArtCAM Standard 2017 instead. All ArtCAM 2017 products sold on the Autodesk Store are covered by a 30-day money back guarantee. You're welcome to contact Autodesk and confirm this point with them.
I know this discussion has been inactive for some time, but I thought it would be useful to confirm that Smart Engraving is now included in Autodesk ArtCAM Standard 2018 as part of the Autodesk ArtCAM 2018.1 Update.
I paid a lot of money for a full license of ArtCAM Insignia, my ArtCAM rep convinced to be the maintenance contract for $500 to extend support for the following version, and this was 2 months before the announcement of Autodesk acquiring the product line. As a result, I received AutoDesk ArtCAM Standard 2017, but it didn't have Smart Engraving, which is the sole reason I had purchased Insignia. Now I have ArtCAM Standard 2017, no Smart Engraving, I paid $500 to get a product with fewer features I had in Insignia, and I'm hearing that Standard 2018 DOES include Smart Engraving? Are there plans to add it to 2017 as well, or was this a massive scheme to get people to have to re-purchase 2018 Standard now in order to have Smart Engraving?
Not trying to crash a thread but you could try artcam it is a monthly sub $45. It seems many are not too fond of it but i like it. I know $45 a month adds up but I find it easier to pay when i am using it and unsub the months i am not and a plus side it is always up to date.
I own Vcarve and like it a lot, the user interface is amazingly good and the Vcarve features are excellent. I have used the 30 day free trial for ArtCam Standard and it is also an impressive tool.
The user interface is different than Vcarve, so it took me some time to figure it out. I would say that ArtCam has a slightly steeper learning curve than Vcarve, but in exchange you get a lot more control over the design and toolpath.
For the money, I would say that with the 50% discount that AutoCad is offering now for the one year subscription ($15/month) ArtCam is definitely the better value considering that you would need to pay about $2,000 for Aspire. Even comparing the cost of ArtCam to Vcarve, which is not really fair since ArtCam has many, many more features (including 3D) but for $180 you can use ArtCam for a year versus $700 for Vcarve Pro which you can own forever but will need to purchase again in 3 or four years to get the latest version.
The discounted price of $180 for the 1-year subscription to Autodesk ArtCAM Standard runs thru July 31st. Not guaranteed, but you might score up to 10% cashback from Topcashback if you buy the subscription through them too: -store/
