It's hard to believe that Summer has come and gone! We hope you had a great summer doing fun stuff with family and friends. Now that schools and colleges have resumed I am sure everyone is quickly settling back into their normal routines. TIPCA also took a long summer break. Our last Mass and social was on June 8, almost 3 months ago! Over the summer your TIPCA committee has been busy planning and organizing activities for the rest of the year and are now ready to restart our bi-monthly Mass and other activities.
The most significant event during the summer was Fr. KK's retirement at the end of June. Fr. KK served as the pastor of St. Thomas Aquinas Church for the last 9 years and as TIPCA's Spiritual Director for the last 6 years. Fr. KK allowed TIPCA to use the facilities at St. Thomas and willingly said the Mass for us. During Fr. KK's tenure St. Thomas' grew spiritually and got vibrant. His guidance has been invaluable. One of his many accomplishments was clearing the parish debt and purchase of adjoining land to allow for future growth. To show their gratitude the parishioners gave Fr. KK a rousing retirement party and send-off on June 28. TIPCA members participated in the festivities. The Alphonso sisters Naomi/Christina/Genevie, and Amanda Bush did a very high energy Bollywood dance. Thank you kids for the wonderful performance. TIPCA contributed Biryani for the dinner. We are very grateful to Fr. KK for all he has done for us during the last few years. We wish him a long and happy retirement.
Fr. KK 's successor is Fr. Santy Kurian, MSFS. Many of you know him from his previous assignment at St. Laurence Church. Fr. Santy has agreed to say the Mass for us.
Welcome Fr. Santy!!
September TIPCA Mass is on Sunday September 14
The September TIPCA Mass will be at 4:30 PM on September 14. On September 8 we celebrate the Birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This feast is celebrated in a very big way in many parts of India especially in Mangalore. In Mangalore the feast is called Monthichi Fest. In Bombay thousands of people of all religious faiths come in pilgrimage to Mount Mary's church in Bandra. The feast is also called Bandra Feast. The feast is followed by the Bandra Fair which is held the following week after the feast. Fr. Santy will be out so he has arranged Fr. Jaison from St. Laurence to say the Mass for us. Rosary will be at 4:00 PM in the Chapel. Please try to be there in time so we don't have to rush through the rosary.
The social and dinner is being sponsored by the Mangalorean community. Because of the large number of people who come for this Mass we have moved the socials from the usual Aldrich Hall to the St. Thomas Aquinas Hall across from the church just for this time. The church very graciously has allowed us to use the big hall without any additional charges.

The church is modeled after the Lourdes Basilica. The Grotto is an exact replica of Lourdes. miracles have taken place at the grotto. When you are picnicking, those interested can take a break and walk across the road to the Grotto which about 200 yards from Colaco's property. Lunch and drinks will be provided. Timing's will be from 12.00 noon to 6.00pm.
We need to get a good count on the number attending for food and drinks arrangements and so we will be sending you a separate E-vite. Please respond to the E-vite RSVPing with numbers attending.
Archdiocesan Asian Mass November 9
The Diocesan Asian Mass will be held on November 9, at Our Lady of Lavang Church located at 12320 Old Foltin Road, Houston, TX 77086 just off US 249 in North Houston This year Cardinal DiNardo will be out of town so the Mass will be celebrated by Auxiliary Bishop George Sheltz.
The Asian Mass was started by the Archdiocese about 12 years ago to give Catholics from the different Asian countries the opportunity to come together to worship and share their faith and culture and food and entertainment. The six Asian countries taking part in the Mass are China, India, Indonesia, Korea, Philippines and Viet Nam. Everyone comes dressed in their native dress.
