TIPCA Mass and Socials for February:  A thanksgiving mass was offered by Flavia and Mel Dmello.  A scrumptious meal of Biryani was sponsored by them which was thoroughly enjoyed by our member attendees.  Thank you Mel and Flavia for your generosity.

TIPCA Pilgrimage / Retreat to the Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan del Valle National Shrine - April 4-6

Fifteen TIPCA members and their families (a total of 30 adults and children) went on a pilgrimage and retreat to the Basilica Church of Our Lady of San Juan del Valle in San Juan, Texas.  San Juan is a small town in the Valley near McAllen and only 6 miles from the border with Mexico.  The Basilica is the best known shrine in Texas dedicated to Our Lady.  Thousands of pilgrims visit the church from all over the US and Mexico and many favors and miracles are attributed to the Virgin. The group left for San Juan on Friday April 4.

On Saturday morning the retreat began with a welcome address by the Rector Fr. Amador Garza who gave us a brief background and history of the shrine.  We then had a talk and meditation given by Sr. Rose Garay, a very energetic and warm nun who is the Pilgrim Outreach Director at the church.  Sr. Rose was our host and guide for the entire time we were there.  Following the talk we had some free time to visit one of the 5 chapels where the Blessed Sacrament is kept.  After lunch Sr. Rose took us on a private tour of the Shrine.  One of the rooms we visited is called the Miracle Room.  It contains thousands of  mementos and articles donated by pilgrims in thanksgiving for favors received.  After the tour we had the Stations of the Cross.  The Stations are beautiful large outdoor sculptures on the grounds of the Basilica.  In the evening we attended a Mariachi Mass in the Basilica.  The TIPCA group was given reserved seating and the presiding priest recognized our group.
Following the Mass we had a social and dinner with good food, music, games and dancing.

On Sunday morning we said good bye to the Virgin and drove back home.

Every one who went there was very impacted by the Shrine.  For those of you who could not join us I strongly recommend that you make a pilgrimage to the Basilica.  For more information please visit their web site:  http://www.olsjbasilica.org/

TIPCA Mass on April 12

We had a very good turnout for the bi-monthly Mass held on April 12 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church.  Fr. K. K. was the Mass celebrant.  It is very satisfying to see so many of our newer members and old timers of TIPCA to make the effort to attend this Mass. We still have been missing a lot more of the older members and would love to see more older TIPCA members attend our socials.

The Mass was sponsored by the Naik family in memory of Stella's mother, Philomina Joseph.  After the Mass the social was held in Alridge Hall.  Everyone was treated to some very delicious food prepared by Stella and her family.

Thank you Naik family for sponsoring the Mass.

Chrism Mass

TIPCA was asked to provide 3 volunteers for the Chrism Mass at the Co-Cathedral on April 15.  This Mass is celebrated by Cardinal DiNardo.  The Holy Oils are blessed at this Mass.  After the Mass the Holy Oils are distributed to all the parishes in the diocese.  Priests of the diocese renew their vows at this Mass.  More than 100 priests and an equal number of deacons were present at the Mass.  The Mass is held each year during Holy Week.  I encourage you to attend this Mass next year.  Thank you Noella Soares, Cynthia Soares and Michael Lobo for your time and serving at this mass.
