At the end of the second module the student will be able to plan language education interventions also in multilingual contexts.

During the course, optional home exercises will be proposed, which will be corrected collectively in class and allow students to self-evaluate their acquired skills in itinere. In January students could (not should) take a partial written test concerning topics treated in the first module, to be completed after the end of the second module. Skills acquired throughout the course, including the ability to write in Italian, will be assessed during the final written exam.

Students will be able to acquire and/or develop metalinguistic and analysis skills in Italian texts produced in different circumstances and with various purposes, and will be able to plan and critically explain didactic activities on Italian, also in multilingual contexts.

No prerequisite is required, except basic knowledge of Italian grammar. To better attend the course, non-native speakers should have intermediate knowledge of Italian corresponding at least to B1 or B2 of the European framework.

Face-to-face lectures (according to the University provisions), requiring the active participation of students (in particular, in the first module the "flipped classroom" will be experienced: parts of the exam program will be assigned to be prepared individually at home, which will be discussed collectively in the next lesson). Lesson will not be recorded but each student, in turn and according to a pre-established calendar, will draw up the summary.

The first module (held in the first semester by Prof. Cella) will focus on the illustration of Italian structures (phonetics, morphology, syntax and lexicon, textuality) and linguistic variation (especially in space and in communicative and social contexts), and in the critically motivated proposal of teaching models of the Italian language and grammar in primary school. After the first 40 hours, in the following 16 hours (in December and February), students, in small groups, must explain to the class a book chosen from a list of titles that will be given at the beginning of the course (seminar).

The second module (held in the second semester by Prof. Gallina) will focus on the processes of acquiring/learning a language, on the historical framework and on the theoretical principles of language education, on the plurality of languages that characterizes the Italian school context and on how to manage this diversity with multilingual teaching.

The workshop (held in the second half of the year by Prof. Di Benedetto and divided into two groups) will propose planning didactic activities for teaching Italian language and grammar, also in multilingual context.

Other specific material will be indicated in class and made available on the Moodle page of the course (for access to it is necessary to register with the official UniPisa account). Explanations given in class represent an integral part of the exam programme (see summaries of the lessons drawn up in turn by students and available on the Moodle page of the course).

Non-attending students will prepare the same programme as attending students, including teaching materials available on the Moodle page of the course. They will replace the seminar with a careful reading of one of the proposed books and will present it orally when they are called for the delivery of the final written exam.

Final written exam (relating to both modules), consisting of exercises (phonetic transcription, morphological recognition, syntactic analysis) and closed-ended and open-ended questions on the topics covered in the texts indicated in the "Bibliography and teaching material" and during the course. The test will last two hours.

At the end of the first semester students could (not should) take an ongoing written exam (only one appointment in January), lasting one hour, relating to the contents of the first module; for those who pass the ongoing exam, the final written exam will consist only of the part relating to the second module (to be carried out in one hour). The results of both tests, considering also workshop and seminar, will contribute to the attribution of the final mark.

The results of the written exams will be published anonymously on the Moodle page of the course as soon as possible. Together with the results, the date on which the candidates will be able to view the corrections and discuss them with the teachers will be indicated.
