How do I deactivate mobile notifications only when I have the slack window focused on desktop? It's really annoying for me to get vibrating phone notifications about something I am already reading on desktop :(

We understand it can be difficult to focus on your work when your computer constantly notifies you of new messages. To help mitigate the noise, Slack has several ways to customize notifications. You can adjust the sound, timing, and appearance of your notifications for specific channels, direct messages, or huddles. You can also have different notification settings for your desktop and mobile devices. The following are suggested best practices for Slack notification settings. For more Slack best practices, tips, and tricks, refer to U-M Slack: Best Practices and Tips.

Hi! I am hoping someone can help me. I am intersted in setting up Slack notifications for customers/employees who use the Jira Service Desk to submit tickets. Currently, when our employees submit a ticket through the service desk, they have to check their email for the JIRA notifications. The only way I've figured out how to get Slack updates in JIRA is for them to have a JIRA aacount, which we don't want because that is very expensive. That being said is there a way to give them visibility/notification through slack, without them having a JIRA account? Thanks!

But before you can join the conversation, you have to join the Slack channel where the dialogue is happening. Here's how to do it in both the desktop Slack app for Mac or PC, as well as the mobile app for iPhone and Android.

To join a private channel, someone has to invite you in. The best way to do this, on both desktop and mobile, is for them to simply mention you. They can do this by typing the @ symbol followed by your name.

Yes exactly. When I share a link to a project folder for example to my collagues in slack, when they click and open it will open it in dropbox.com and they can browse and download the files. But rather than downloading something that they already have in their hard-drive (in our team dropbox) they could just sync the file in finder and also start working on other files there too.

I think you're referring to the option for opening in Dropbox (the desktop app on your computers) - this would be "Show in Finder" and would appear only if those files are synced to the members' computer(s) too.

If that is the case, the focus is on our desktop app. When you access/open files from our website, our desktop app communicates with our site, in order to provide the available options for opening those files. So the first thing to check is that our desktop app is running when you or a teammate of yours access these links.

If I'm working on a project folder inside that team folder, and want to share that folder location via slack to my colleagues so that they can easily open that folder in their computer's finder (as they have that same team dropbox and should have that folder already on their hard-drive synced as online-only or maybe even local), there seems to be no easy way to do this.

1) Just manually write that location (which could be very deep in the folder structure) in slack, and they will go to their finder and start clicking trough our team dropbox folder to find it so that they can start working on the files

2) Use "Copy Dropbox link" and paste it to slack so that people can open that folder in web, view previews and download files. However this is the problem as our team members need to work on the files and again manually locate that folder on our dropbox to do so.

Tenable Researcher David Wells discovered a vulnerability in Slack Desktop for Windows that could have allowed an attacker to alter where files downloaded within Slack are stored. Tenable worked with Slack via HackerOne based on our coordinated disclosure policy and Slack has since released a new version of its Windows desktop client to address this vulnerability. Users should ensure their Slack desktop application is up to date.

We all get our work done differently. Some of us are at our desks from 9 to 5, while others work more flexible hours. Some of us commute to work, while others work from home (or do both). Regardless of our setup, we are always connected and available, either through our desktop or our phones.

We explored simple navigation patterns like the single pane view (a la a desktop-like world), as well as more advanced navigation patterns like a hybrid approach that combined tabs and sidebars. Below are some snippets from the many detailed prototypes we created in Figma:
