I just finished on the corner where you live! Thus concluding my adventure into the Paper Kites, but I am yet still rank all the songs from Twelvefour onwards as I like to listen to an album around 4-5 times before I properly review and rank.
Literally just finished listening and I liked it a lot more than its predecessor but a lot of the songs sounded similar with that 80s alt aesthetic it went for in the early album. But damn 59th into Give me was amazing, second half of album better half. Need to listen to it more.
Kind of a let down listening to Woodland and then this back to back. But still has some solid songs like Leopold Street and When our Legs grew Tall. Was a little uninteresting for me with tracks like Maker of my time and Paint but overall solid EP
These songs were so hard to find. Could really see the beginning of their sound here and the hunger they had but also the naivety. Really cute uplifting stuff as compared to their album output. Especially seeing an Early Version Of Arms.

'At The Roadhouse' is the continuation of an odds-defying run for The Paper Kites that has seen them achieve accolades like a certified Platinum record in the US, over a billion streams on Spotify, and continuously-growing sold-out audiences across three continents. Removing themselves from the typical pageantry that accompanies accolades like that, the group found inspiration for this new album while hand-converting an old gold-mining supply shop into the music venue of their dreams - affectionately dubbed "The Roadhouse." In Campbells Creek, away from the pressures of daily life, The Paper Kites joyfully filled the venue with music around the clock for weeks on end: creating new songs by day, performing them to a growing fan community at night, and recording right there the next morning. Taking their inspiration from the area's red earth and bushfire moons, the sixteen songs of 'At The Roadhouse' form a touching ode to what waits for us on the winding roads of love, loss, acceptance and wanderlust.

This was the first song that I showed the band when we talked about the direction of the record. As such I think it holds a cherished place for all of us because we all connected with it and understood it - and in a way, everything else on the record was sort of held up against that song. You might say it was one of the pillars of the record - it signalled the tone of what the music should be, and if we felt like we were getting too far away from that feeling, songs like this were a directional beacon guiding us back to the vision of the record.
When disturbed, Swallow-tailed Kites give a loud, squeaky whistle, usually repeated several times. To deter a predator, they may call while circling and attract up to 20 or more other kites to join in on the effort. During courtship they give a long, upward-slurring whistle.
