Every single individual I know has a different meaning and different perception of love. It evolves over time. Life experiences. Heartbreaks. Adventures. It took me over 40 years to understand what love is really all about. What love means to me. Just to me. Not how other people have defined love. But what love - koi - means to me on my own terms.

You need to understand a few things about me. For a long time, I defined love based on what I had observed growing up, what my past relationships have dictated or what I thought others perceived it should be. Whether it was from movies like the Mannequin, Serendipity or Titanic, from my circle of friends, social media and of course, my parents - it was always defined only by external means.

We always put each other first. We have to be open and honest with each other. Another non-negotiable for us is that no matter how difficult a discussion gets, that we never walk away from that conversation. And boy, we have had our share of challenging talks and stayed up until the wee-hours until it was resolved - even when one of us might be melting down. One of her non-negotiables with me is that we would sleep together every night. One of mine is that we never, ever talk about the possibility of breaking up, divorce - no matter the situation and no matter how heated an argument might get.

"Love Like This" is a song by English singer-songwriter Zayn. It was released as a single on 21 July 2023 through Mercury and Republic Records and serves as his first release under the labels. Zayn wrote the song with producers Jon Bellion and the Monsters & Strangerz (Jordan K. Johnson and Stefan Johnson), alongside Michael Pollack. The song serves as his first solo release in over two years although he had later released three collaborations with other artists. A remix of the song by Mura Masa was released on 8 September 2023.

On 26 June 2023, Billboard confirmed that Zayn had recently signed to Mercury Records, in which label heads confirmed that he would be releasing his first single under the label "very soon this summer", which he teased by wiping all the posts on his Instagram account, while inside sources close to him also said that he would be experimenting with a new sound with the music that he had been making around the same time.[1] The following day, Zayn teased a clip of what appeared to be a music video shoot for an upcoming song on social media, which showed him wearing a helmet while getting ready to ride a motorcycle, along with a pre-save link for his new music.[2][3] Two days later, he teased another clip that played a part of the instrumental of the song, as his vocals were quiet and faded towards the end. On 3 July 2023, Zayn shared an actual snippet of the song with his vocals as part of another clip of the video. Exactly a week later, he revealed the title of the song and release date as he shared a video of him spray painting "LOVE LIKE THIS 7.21" on a wall.[4] On 12 July 2023, Zayn was interviewed on the podcast Call Her Daddy by Alex Cooper, in which he described the song as "a summer jam" and furtherly felt that "it's a good vibe, it just feels like summer".[5] Two days later, Zayn shared the cover art of the song.[6] Leading up to the release of the song, he shared snippets and different clips of the video multiple times.[7]

"Love Like This" is a pop, drum and bass, and UK garage song.[8][9][10] Over a house-inspired instrumental, Zayn sings about a new romantic relationship that he is in and wants it to stay that way despite the risks that may come with it.[11]

The official music video for "Love Like This", directed by Ivanna and Frank Borin, was released alongside the song on 21 July 2023. The video was shot in New York and sees Zayn wearing a red and black motorcycle jacket as he is in the company of his love interest, played by Grace Dumdaw, as they kiss and spend time with each other.[12]

In the predawn hours I found myself crying out to the Lord, both for comfort for those impacted by these senseless killings and for mercy for our nation. During the many years I was involved in ministry in Africa, I spoke on numerous occasions with those whose lives had been deeply impacted by senseless violence. As I prayed, I found myself wondering what was becoming of our nation.

Hatred and violence have been a part of the fallen human condition since Cain killed his brother Abel in the early chapters of Genesis. The pages of history recount story after story of tragedy and violence against precious people created in the image of God. How it must hurt the heart of our Heavenly Father to see people hating and hurting one another!

As events like those of the past week continue, politicians and news pundits debate what needs to be done to curb this increasing flood of violence in America. In the early morning hours on Sunday I asked myself: how do we, as the people of God, respond to such tragic events in our day?

If there ever was a time for the people of God to humble themselves and pray, it is today! The depravity of the human heart is beyond any law or governmental jurisdiction to fully control. The redeeming, life-changing power of the gospel is the ultimate answer to the brokenness, hatred and violence in the world around us. A cry to the Lord for a spiritual awakening in America should be front and center in our prayers. The sovereign Lord of the universe is the One who is able to work powerfully in the midst of the most difficult of situations.

We must pray for comfort and healing for those who have suffered injuries and the loss of loved ones, peace for those who now live in fear of what could happen to them and their families within their own communities, and transformation, through Christ, for those who are consumed with hatred or racism that could lead them to future acts of violence.

As you reflect on these things, ask the Lord to show you the attitudes, words and actions of which you need to repent. Humble yourself before the Lord, seek His forgiveness and take action today to make a difference in your world for Jesus.

Now is certainly not a time to lose heart and live in fear. It is rather a time for the people of God to shine like lights in a dark world (Phil 2:15) as we cry out in prayerful dependence on the Lord while we love and live like Jesus.

Holy Father, my heart is heavy as I reflect on the pain and loss of those impacted by the horrific violence in Gilroy, El Paso and Dayton. Please bring comfort, peace and healing to those whose lives have been devastated by these senseless acts. May they know your loving presence in deep and personal ways these days.

How you must grieve over the brokenness of our nation as you see anger and hatred seething among us. We have lost a sense of the incredible value of every human life as precious, created in your image. Lord, we confess that we are sinful and broken people, desperately in need of your mercy and grace. Our nation needs healing only you can bring!

Lord, we humble ourselves before you today and cry out to you for mercy. Forgive us for the ways our lives have not reflected the heart of Jesus to those around us. Oh, how we need a fresh move of your Holy Spirit among us!

Grant us the courage and grace to live and love like Jesus in the midst of our broken world. May our attitudes, words and actions reflect the loving heart of the Savior as we interact with those around us. Give us eyes to see others like you see them and hearts to love them like you love them. Most of all, grant us opportunities to point people to Jesus who is the way, the truth and the life. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Now France is a forever part of my life and without me even realizing it, the French outlook on love and coupling has become a seamless part of my marriage. And though I protested at first, I have to admit some aspects of French relationships have been welcome additions to my life.

Dinner time is important to the French not only because they respect their food and culture, but because it is a time to sit together, without phones, and be with each other. And the table should be set properly out of respect for this ritual.
