NoteYour Chromebook supports third-party file systems that use DocumentsProvider APIs. If you download one of these Android files apps from the Play Store, it will appear on the left-hand side of your Files .

By default, your files are saved to your Downloads folder, a temporary folder on your Chromebook's hard drive. You can change where downloads are saved by default or select a specific folder for each download.

On the Windows platform, when I click this link (which looks like this ), it takes me to a Dropbox Transfer web page in my internet browser. There the address bar shows a totally different address. It looks like this " ". At the center of the window, I see a box-like in the image below. After I click the download symbol (downward facing arrow with a bar below it), the download starts with a ZIP file format. If I click the copy link button in the top right corner, I get the first link back. So this is just taking me in a vicious circle. I cannot peek into the folder for downloading individual files using the wget command.

You can try zipping the folder before uploading and then share the link of the zip file. When we download a folder, the dropbox server needs to do the zipping, I think there is no static link available to that zip file.

Thanks for the post! Dropbox unfortunately does not offer a way to programmatically download from Transfer links like this, but I'll pass this along as a feature request. I can't promise if or when that might be implemented though.

The link you are looking on is a transfer link (not a shared link as far @Elixir gets confused). Shared link could be previewed or downloaded (depending on link's GET parameter). Transfer link don't have ability for GET download, unfortunately (either with or without GUI). The transfer link you have received can be only viewed (and downloaded from there, of course). Actual download link is a POST -web.dropbox.com/zip_archive_token_download (not GET). Parameter describing downloaded content (archive_token) isn't accessible in advance. Let's hope such a opportunity will be added.

I've noticed that there are older forum posts available online (4 years) that show a method of doing this by copying the link that the GUI brings up. It would seem Dropbox has actively worked to prevent this from being possible.

As much as this is an inconvenience to me right this second. It's easy to see how this as a feature would create use cases for transfer out of the scope of what was originally intended. As such I understand Dropbox's decision. Despite the frustration.

Before using cross-device copy and paste for the first time, you'll need to make sure the feature is turned on. Open the Phone Link on your PC, go to Settings > Features > Cross-device copy and paste, and make sure the toggle is On for Allow this app to access and transfer content I copy and paste between my phone and PC.

Use your mouse to long press again on the file(s) you've selected, and a thumbnail will appear. Drag the files to your desired location on your PC. The cursor will change to indicate when you're able to drop the file(s).

Use your mouse to long press on the photo(s) you've selected, and a thumbnail will appear. Drag the photo(s) to your desired location on your PC. The cursor will change to say Copy when you are able to drop.

By default, content you drag from your PC to your Android device will be saved to your My Files app. Some apps, like OneDrive and Outlook, will allow you to directly drop content into them. If a file can't be dropped into the app you intended, it will be transferred to your My Files app on your Android device instead.

Once you've opened Phone screen in the Phone Link, use your mouse to select the file(s) you'd like to transfer and drag them to the phone screen window. The cursor will change to say Copy when you're able to drop.

When a successful file transfer is made, you can either tap the notification that appears on your Android device, navigate to the app you dropped your content into, or go to your Internal Storage > Download folder to view your files.

File drag and drop supports the transfer of all file types except for folders and files backed up to the cloud. You can transfer up to 100 files at a time, of any type. No single file can be larger than 512MB in size.

The item being transferred is not supported. For example, if even just one of the items you are dragging is a folder and not a file, or you try dragging 100 files, your Android device won't allow you to start a transfer.

File drag and drop requires a Samsung or OPPO or HONOR or ASUS device running Link to Windows (pre-installed) version 1.0.52.30 or later. Your Android device and PC must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

What I'm trying to do is take the files off Dropbox and save them on a hard drive.

I don't want to lose the files but it seems very difficult to move files from Dropbox to laptop. I'm almost trapped into keeping them in Dropbox!!!

Hi Jane

Thanks for the reply.

Clearing the cache doesn't work, using Google Chome or MS Edge doesn't work.

Trying to download a different file doesn't work.

The error message says "There was an error downloading your file."

I've checked the browser permissions and other than blocking ads, midi player and pop ups and redirects (default chrome behaviour) everything else inclduing downloads is available.

You'd think that I ought to be able to download my own files, right?

I have a folder that contains a few different files all in the same format. They have to be saved separately as they come from the same source but slightly different parameters. I have never used the folder browse interface tool but am wondering whether it could be useful here.

My problem is that sometimes there might be 4 instead of 3 files every month. It is because I run the same report based on six different variants and sometimes there is or isn't data for some of the parameters.

If they are varying you can use the solution provided by @Qiu. If you are using a lower version of Alteryx and not able to open the workflow use this guide to downgrade your workflow -Works/Making-Workflows-Apps-amp-Macros-Backwards-Compatible/...

I have used an input tool with a * sign to import all the files from the location. As far as I can see, all the files have the same layout and come from the same place. However when I imported them, one was rejected for having a different schema although I can't figure how it was different. What other things does Alteryx look out for in regard to schemas being different apart from layout and file type?
