TOKYOIS A VERY dense city where people live in tightly packed-together apartments and houses with thin walls. Also, there are no basements, and no extra space in the garages and no driveways in which a car could sit while you played drums in the garage. And there is no street parking.

You might think this would make the country very inhospitable to drummers, but that is only partly true. Much like public transportation picks up the slack in the city where it would be impossible for everyone to drive or even own a car, so too do essentially public drum sets pick up the slack where it would be obnoxious if everyone who wanted to play drums set up a kit in their tiny apartment or garage.

First, for a band, there are practice studios everywhere in Tokyo and often there is one in most any moderately-sized city outside of Tokyo. I had a band in Tsukuba city in Ibaraki prefecture north of Tokyo for awhile, and we had two practice studios to choose from in that city.

Their initial designs have evolved over the years to deliver these popular drums that have been met with approval all over the country. Music Services in Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Ealing, Portsmouth, North Somerset and Devon have all bought Kagemusha Taiko Pipe Drums in the past few years, and we welcome individual schools, emerging Taiko groups and individuals to purchase smaller sets of drums.

Everyone loves playing Taiko, and it works successfully with both Primary and Secondary pupils. The physical nature of Taiko makes it utterly absorbing and exciting, whilst the discipline provides a structured framework for creativity.

We work with a small number of specialist logistic companies to deliver your order quickly and economically. The delivery method varies, depending on your location and the size of the order, as follows:

Japanese Taiko Drumming develops great life skills in young people including awareness, collaborative working and discipline. All the elements of music can be taught as well as physical movement and well being.

Taiko, Japan's famous traditional drums, are growing in popularity around the world due to the emergence of taiko groups and their spectacular live performances. Sonica Instruments has packaged the heart-stopping low end, bombastic volumes, dynamic rhythms and unmistakable sound of five taiko percussion instruments in an impeccably recorded and crafted library. Performed by Ikki Hino, famed for his intricate taiko stickwork, and produced by sound creator and composer Tomzuin H, Japanese Taiko Percussion gives the curious musician and sound producer access to a vivid, unexplored world of percussive expressions.

Taiko may be traditional but their sound is both contemporary and timeless. There is no other percussive instrument with its passion, pluck and power that can turn heads with a single beat. Japanese Taiko Percussion can add an evocative spice to movie soundtracks, ad scores, rock, hip-hop, house, techno, ambient, experimental or any other musical style.

The Hang is a steel, disk-shaped, harmonically tuned percussion instrument that's played with the hands. It's incredibly sensitive and dynamic; the entire disk resonates at a central frequency as your hands move around the edge, teasing the notes out.

Sampling the unique, magical sound of a Balinese Gamelan is no small undertaking. The 25 instruments that make up The London Symphony Orchestra's Semara Dana Gamelan Ensemble had to be recorded in great detail, as if each were to be a sample library in its own right.

Taishi Yamabe was born in 1988 in Kurashiki, Okayama. Listening to his father's Japanese drumming and his mother's piano, he became familiar with taiko drums from the age of 3 and made his first appearance on stage at the age of 6. In 2004, at the age of 16, he became the youngest person to win the grand prize in the Taiko Division of the Tokyo International Japanese Taiko Contest. Taishi gained attention as a "once-in-a-50-year talent."

In addition to the classic three-beat of Japanese drums, he also enjoys the rhythm of drums and foreign percussion instruments, and changes them into a variety of sounds. His activities are not limited to the taiko world, but he is also actively expanding into various genres, performing on stage with enka performers such as Hiroshi Itsuki and Fuyumi Sakamoto, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu JPOP, and sessions with SPYAIR in the rock world. In particular, Fuerzabruta's Japanese performance "WA" attracted 5 million people from 30 countries around the world. Taishi performed about 400 times in this long-running performance.

He is known as one of the leading drummers in the Japanese drum world due to his "absolute sense of rhythm" (rather than perfect pitch), extremely fast drumstick work, and his overwhelming presence. He is one of Japan's proud Japanese drummers and creators. He also composes Japanese songs including taiko drums, like the songs included in the CD "TAISHI" released in March 2019 that shows the new possibilities of Japanese drums and the splendor of Japanese music in his works. Taishi is a drummer as well as stage director.

Shishido was given the name "Kavka" for her stage name by copy editor Junpei Watanabe. Shishido always wore black, reminding her of a crow. She picked the Czech word kavka, which refers to the daurian jackdaw.[3][4]

Shishido was born in Mexico in 1985 to Japanese parents. She lived there until she was two, later going to Japan for elementary school.[3] Between the ages of 13 and 14, Shishido lived in Argentina.[3] She learned Spanish to use in her daily life, though on returning to Japan forgot it since she had nobody with whom to practice.[4] When she was 14, Shishido was inspired to take up the drums after seeing a live performance on TV. She enjoyed the idea of the drummer being an "unsung hero" of the band, after noticing the camera never focused on the drummer.[5] She was first taught the basics of drumming at 14, by Daniel "Pipi" Piazzolla, a drummer and grandson of tango musician Astor Piazzolla.[4]

Shishido started performing with her own vocals at age 20.[3] In 2004, Shishido joined the all-female band The News as their third drummer.[4][6][7] In 2005, Shishido started collaborating with The High-Lows' drummer Kenji Ohshima and Uverworld producer Satoru Hiraide, and made a band called Eddy12 (stylized as eddy12) together.[8][9][10][11] During this period, Shishido started to perform in her signature style, performing the drums and singing simultaneously.[3]

While in Eddy12, Shishido was scouted by a record company for her to debut as a solo musician.[4] She was scouted before she started performing the drums as part of her act, but added them back in during discussions for how to set her apart from other musicians.[4] She left The News in 2009,[6] however continued to work with her Eddy12 bandmates who act as producers.[4] She debuted under Imperial Records with the digital single "Day Dream Rider" in May 2012. Since then, Shishido released three physical singles, "Aisuru Kakugo", "Music" and "Kiken na Futari". The latter was used as the opening theme song for the TV Asahi drama Doubles: Futari no Keiji.[3] Shishido released her debut album, Kavkanize, on September 4, 2013. In February 2014, Shishido held her first Japanese tour after the release of her single "Wagamama"/"Miss. Miss Me".[12]

In September, it was announced that Shishido had switched labels to the newly created Justa Music, a sub-label of Avex Group, and would star in the second series of Erika Sawajiri fashion drama First Class.[13] Her first release under the label is the song "Don't Be Love" featuring veteran singer-songwriter Kazuyoshi Saito, and will be used as the theme song of the 2015 Fuji Television drama Isha-tachi no Ren'ai Jijō.[14] This song also serves as the leading track from K5, a special extended play where Shishido will collaborate with five different musicians, released in June 2015.[15]

Shishido starred in her first nationwide commercial for Glico's snack food Pretz, which debuted in February 2013. It features Shishido playing the drums in the Strahov Monastery library in Prague.[19]
