Im having some issues setting up the recaptcha in the newsletter block. I've followed the step by step instructions for set up and have pasted in the External API keys. The recaptcha box shows in editing mode but on the live website it isn't there and the submit button doesn't work when an email is entered. If I disable the recaptcha then the sign up works fine. Any ideas why?
To be honest, this looks like a Squarespace bug ("technical issue") but it is very difficult to diagnose issues like this remotely, especially when there isn't a reCAPTCHA on the site. Perhaps you have removed it @organic_emma due to the error?
Your screenshot looks fine. On behalf of a client isn't an issue either. If it isn't working, it could be a site-specific issue, but this would require someone to log on to the sites (Google and Sqsp) to. If it helps, I've checked other Squarespace sites and they are working fine.
Me too. I've had to use the email verification for now as the captcha isn't working. I'm not the most technical person, but I have used the correct v2 keys, so it isn't that. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I am having this same issue and my client is incredibly frustrated. This type of stuff makes me want to abandon SquareSpace all together. Anybody having any luck? Squarespace tells me it's my issue with custom code...
Have there been any fixes to this?? Why is this still an issue? I've added both domains, and my reCAPTCHA shows when editing, but not on the live site. The page is
booksbyadrian.com/survey-thank-you.
I am having the same issue as everyone else. Works in Edit mode, but does not in live.
I tried the workaround suggested on the last post, making a change and then choosing Save, instead of Done, and it still does not work.
I tried numerous ways of editing. Just adding an extra character to the page. I changed a setting with my newsletter. Then even disabled reCAPTCHA, saved it, then enabled it, and saved it again. Still works in edit mode, but does not in live mode. Also made sure that I was using V2.
If you have added both domain names to the reCAPTCHA settings (the one ending in .
squarespace.com and the primary domain name that you chose) then I recommend you reach out to Squarespace Customer Care. The forum community would love to help but we are unable to troubleshoot features that are not working as expected.
Answer (for me at least). When you set up your reCAPTCHA in google, I was following the instructions and JUST put my site address that shows up when I am editing, the url that ends in
squarespace.com. Thus it worked while in edit mode. However, you ALSO need to add your end user URL, or the URL that the visitor uses (that is not working). Once I added that, then it worked.

I cannot upgrade my account because Recaptcha is blocking my payment for 'security reasons'. Ironically, I cannot get help from live chat because my account is not important enough to have that ability. I assume once I upgrade I will be able to get support... but I can't upgrade until it accepts my payment. Do you see my dilemma?
If you receive the error message "Could not connect to the reCAPTCHA service. Please check your internet connection and reload to get a reCAPTCHA challenge", you may need to allow access to Google IP addresses.
For anyone else having this problem, I tried all the recommendations listed in the replies. Unfortunately not helpful. I tried Firefox and Chrome, disabled all extensions, tried in privacy mode, cleared cache, etc. Nothing worked and the "recaptcha" error came up just like in the reply above. Also, there was no captcha to attempt. It appears to be a problem with the JS on the page.
You can test invisible recaptcha by using Chrome emulator. You will need to add a new custom device (BOT) in developer tools, and set User Agent String to Googlebot/2.1 on Desktop . Then use the new BOT device when testing on your site to trigger the recaptcha authentication.
I have a lot of troubles connecting to Etsy because of this security measure reCAPTCHA. Now I connected with another computer, but cannot work on orders from this other computer.... reCAPTCHA just repeats endlessly and I still cannot connect!
Like Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Microsoft Edge..whatever you are using..try something different. I have issues with recaptcha with Chrome. People have reported Firefox issues too but I don't think it was recaptcha .
@LatitudeLaineShop: "I don't know what Reboot means" In the context of the post, it means turning your device off and then back on. If you are on a Windows machine, do a NOT a if you want to clean out memory, cache, etc.
I always use the same device and browser (desktop computer, Chrome, Windows 10). For a while there, I was getting the Captcha quite often. Then it went away and I would get the Red Banner, "An error has occurred" upon Signing In. When that happened, I would do a Refresh (F5) and I would be in. Or I would do a "Hard Refresh" (Ctrl F5, which I never heard of until @BagmakerSupply posted about in various Threads). Eventually the Error Banner went away and I Signed In with no problem. Then the Captcha came back a few times (lately I haven't had any issues at all, knock on wood).
Once or twice a day I clear cache/cookies in my browser. Sometimes when I check this, it will update to the next level of my browser (Chrome). And every now and then I will unplug the modem for approx. 5 min., then plug it back in. There are times when I will shut my computer down at night (clicking the circle at the bottom left of screen, either to "Shut Down" or "Restart"). If Windows has any Updates, there will be a yellow dot on top of the circle. Then depending on what I've selected, it will Update and Shut Down for the night, or Update and Restart.
Your address is not always the same. Your ISP can change locations and that can start the recaptcha, I have had that and have had the same ISP for years, However when my ISP starts from another of their locations I get the recaptcha.
As businesses add more verification and higher security then you may be having more issues if you have an older computer that cannot cope with the changes. This can lead to more faults be seen when there really isn't one.
@ChillwolfArt@LatitudeLaineShop : If you have a dynamic IP address, Google may be flagging the current one as suspicious, thus the repeated reCaptcha. This is why sometimes turning your modem on and off works as it often gives you a new IP address.
ETA: (Sorry, I should explain where to find your Sign Ins, for anyone who isn't aware). Mousing over your Avatar (top Right on Etsy), click Account > Security. This will show all of the dates you signed in & out. Along with the browser and ISP Address used.
I have been having the same problems and its been happening for over a week now and its really frustrating! I have tried every thing, restarting, clearing cookies/history and nothing works. I have to log in to the forums first and then log in to my shop and that seems to work, although I still have to click on the pictures and prove I am not a robot but its easier to get in and does not keep going in a loop. I am on firefox.
Chrome works better than Firefox on solving these kinds of problems. I have 4 browsers on my computer, and one of my etsy stores is on one, and the other store is on another. You just have to play around opening on another browser when one doesn't work. Firefox, does seem to have more problems.
YeoldAtticshoppe: I know this is so frustrating! Maybe try to not clear cookies/history after the next time you manage to log in. And otherwise the trick that worked for me was this: when you're on the Etsy start page - try to click on the X in the right upper corner. The Etsy page will dissapear, then google the Etsy start page again and log in. Good luck!
This has been happening ALOT lately, and it is so frustrating. It keeps on going on asking for more and more evidence, Says I'm not getting all the photos, etc. I wish they would stop it after one or two pics!
It started happening to me over the last month. No help from tech support, either. They should do away with captcha and use two factor authentication. I shouldn't need to clear cache and cookies on a daily basis or even change browsers. It just needs to be fixed.
Hristian - Not much of what you said (and repeat every time this question come up) is correct, nor do you appear to want to understand the need for ReCaptcha and other fraud/bot/spam detection controls.
(spaced for emphasis) unbounce needs to recognize that many of us have a real need to stop certain traffic BEFORE it enters a sales form, or at least between entering the form and moving to the next step. Invisible ReCaptcha is an extremely effective Turing test and when combined with country level IP blocks and other simple measures, can almost entirely eliminate both non human and human based funnel/click fraud.
Please stop repeating the party line and start helping the people in the community implement the tools that they need instead of forcing them into your narrow view of how a sales/click funnel or form should work.
Hi. Implemented the above script. It seems to be working because I see the badge on my light boxes but I get no data in the Google recaptcha account. Should I wait a few more days? is there any ways to reach out to the Google recaptcha team?
