Devdutt Pattanaik is a mythologist and writer from Mumbai, India. He is also a speaker, illustrator and author, on Hindu sacred lore, legends, folklore, fables and parables. His work focuses largely on the areas of religion, mythology, and management. He has written books on the relevance of sacred stories, symbols and rituals in modern times; his more popular books include Myth = Mithya: A Handbook of Hindu Mythology[1] Jaya: An Illustrated Retelling of the Mahabharata[2] and Sita: An Illustrated Retelling of the Ramayana[3] and My Gita. Did not know that there are so many books related to this like placing Sita as the central character in Ramayana to the secrets of shiva and krishna.

A very thorough and interesting review on the works of Dr.Pattanaik, the writer who explored, explained and expanded the scope of Hindu mythology & its scientific fervour to commoner audience. This review deftly and briskly plods through the masterpieces of the writer telling how he has produced books ranging from general introduction to mythology to deep-delved researches in it, from most famous characters to the most shadowed ones. Devdutt Pattanaik looked into Hindu mythology with a totally different outlook. So much to know about the said but the unsaid tales of Hindu mythology.
Think of Indian books on mythology and a number of popular titles like Amish Tripathi's "The Shiva Trilogy" come to mind. But Devdutt Pattanaik, one of India's foremost writers on mythology, has suggested an underlying difference between "mythological fiction" and "mythology".
And why not if you look at the popularity of the genre and the list of books that continue to dominate the bestseller lists? Most such books, including the very popular "The Shiva Trilogy", "The Krishna Key" or "The Mahabharata Secret" are largely fictional narratives woven around some ancient scriptures. They are collectibles that can be bought, gifted and preserved for the new crop of young minds.
