Hi Everyone,
It sounds like the last meeting to discuss the potential for a local foods store in Owego was small but productive. It was recommended that we consider the Schoharie Fresh model (
www.schohariefresh.com) as a possibility. See the email below from Matt for more info on what was discussed at the meeting.
The next meeting was proposed for Thursday, May 24 at 4pm here at CCE/Tioga County Office Building (56 Main St, Owego). However, that is a very busy day in this building, so there is not a meeting space available at that time. I am also not available that day. So the options are to stick with that meeting date and time and find another location, or try to find another date that works for people when there is meeting space available here.
Let me know what you all think.

Hello all,
Marvin, Carl and I met yesterday to discuss the Local Food store
concept. This was my first meeting with the group. I recommend the
Schoharie Fresh model as a starter for the project.
www.schohariefresh.com
The concept was developed between SUNY Cobleskill and Coop Ext. I think
it is a low-risk, high-flexibilty marketing channel that would leave
room for lots of growth and expansion. Please review the site and get
familiar with the concept. The basic idea is: Farmers post to a website
what products & quantities they have available by a certain weekly
deadline, let's say, Tuesday at 6:00 PM. Then customers have about 48
hours or so to place orders. So, all orders are placed by Thursday at
9:00 PM (for example), farmers pack the orders and bring them down to
the store front for a pre-arranged pick-up time slot, let's say Fridays
from 2:00 to 6:00 or something like that. There are lots of other
details to explain, but that is the basic idea.
If enough people are interested we thought we would bring the developer
of the site and maybe a participating farmer to Owego to give a
presentation sometime in June.
