Hi peeps! I've been having problems with my Mac for the last two weeks but since I got another windows laptop I temporary could use it for work and left the problem with my Mac as it was. Today when I tried to switch it on it's just completely not booting even though I could boot in a safe mode before. Here is what happens:

The problem started 2 weeks ago when I couldn't log in any user in a normal boot. After some research I figured out there might be a problem with corruption on the hard drive. I tried to check with with disk utility and it seems hard is ok, but again not sure about it. Then I tried to reinstall the OS from the internet but in a process of installing it just stops in the middle and nothing happens. What should I do?

I left the Mac with OS installation for the whole night and in the morning I saw it installed although I still don't think it functions properly. The system is able to log in user but then the background image is half loaded for some reason.

When I try to reboot in a normal mode it takes eternity (after the apple logo there is a black screen , some loading and the same process repeats). In a safe boot, there is also black sreen and loading but after 15 min it managed to boot although the same half loaded screen is there. What can be the problem?

Here is what I did: I've replaced the optical drive with ssd and set it for booting. The Mac is working and performance is way better than it was wth hdd. It was also a cheaper solution because I'm sure that both hdd and the bus are broken and replacing them both could have beeen more expensive solution than just buyig a new ssd. I guess I will leave this replacement for later.

It looks like the background image is corrupted which is why only part of it loaded. The way you can tell here is the visible icons on the side and the lower dock menu is present so we know its not the graphics. I'm with Mayer here your drive cable is likely bad which can also kill the drive so you may need both a cable and drive.

How about getting an external SATA to USB adapter to try reformatting & reloading the internal HD externally, thats what I would do here to isolate things. Here's one adapter you can get: Startech 2.5" SATA to USB adapter.

Yes, take your internal drive out and just have it externally on your Mac bypassing the internal cable. No, we don't want to format it with a Windows system as that won't work on the Mac (different formats).

I just realized that I can buy new SSD and replace my optical drive with it. Can I back up my data to SDD from HDD once it's installed? And then can completely throw away HDD? Or, is it even preferable to clone from the old corrupted hdd to the new SSD?

Im not the mac guy here but this does sound like a hard drive failure . Id remove the drive put it in a external enclosure and check it with something like hard disk sentinel with another computer. Hope this helps
