So I used to avidly breed beast pets and stopped doing it for like a year. It was a consistent source of income for me, though when I stopped it had slowed down significantly, partly because of the addition of a third template for Kavats being continued long after the introduction of Vasca (prices dropped dramatically and supply exceeds demand because you can make infinite numbers of any Kavat you want,) and energy being changeable on Kavats, (the only thing you couldn't make look like you had a color when you didn't since, unlike Kubrow, Kavats have access to all their colors through gene-masking kits.)
At some point a cap was put on the amount of templates you can own for god knows why. I had 575 templates when I noticed this and have gotten it down to about 512, but only because I started selling my junk Smeetas on Warframe.market, (normally I don't sell the Smeeta ones because I didn't have as many of them and they are more desirable for crossbreeding because not nearly as many people want Vasca or Adarza.) Imprints don't otherwise move even remotely that fast. The problem is the cap is a meager 200 templates. Until I am below the cap I can not make or claim any new templates I have made of any type of Beast pet. Keep in mind that I can't just record and save the pets for imrpints later unless I want to start paying for more companion slots.
You can sell your templates from your inventory, but this seems like a poor choice to have to make as I can get about 15-20p per imprint, (keep in mind each Kubrow makes 2 and Kavats each make 3,) on warframe.market or through trade chat. This effectively blocks me from having a significant supply of imprints I can sell as mastery fodder, something that makes up for rushing the incubation process, which is a practical decision when it takes a full 24 hours to breed a beast pet and the incubator isn't even useful during that time, meaning I can't equip a pet or make imprints of other pets that have already been incubated. Also keep in mind that 90% of the time, people buy junk imprints in sets of 2, as you have to have 2 to actually breed a pet.
Breeding pets requires a lot of combines to get what you want, and as mentioned above the imprints of those otherwise imperfect/undesirable pets do sell for 15-20p, (only 9p for Adarza unfortunately but it's still plat,)
As such, along with the fact that those of us who avidly bred prior to the cap have well over 200 most of the time, I am pleading with you, DE, to either raise the cap dramatically to something like 750 or 1000, or remove it entirely, which seems like the preferable option.
As an additional suggestion to make life better for pet breeders, I'd like to beg for you to change the incubator to allow for incubating and imprinting while pets are active and equipped. It seems counterintuitive, because for a long time my incubator was busy nonstop, and I couldn't even use the pets I had spent so long breeding. Having to use the other pet types when I put so much effort into beast pets is unfair to me and other breeders, since a lot of times, pet breeding is also a labor of love.
Lastly, I'd like to plead with you to remove the third Kavat imprint from future Kavats that will be bred, because I believe it was added to allow breeders to potentially get Vasca that had the nice colors they might have saved for them had they known they would exist and allow for their features to be bred onto other breeds with rare colors, etc., and it is no longer necessary now that Vasca have been around for a long while. This would breathe a lot more life back into breeding Kavats and be beneficial to the market, in my opinion, which, again, has seen significant negative changes in profit since the third template was added.
I also don't see a reason the imprint limit should be raised from 200, that's all data that has to be stored on the server it's the same kind of limit you see with rivens which also have random properties. Unless you want to start paying for imprint slots I don't see that suddenly changing. 200 imprints is a lot, like congrats that you have a 500 imprint puppy mill going but that is not normal.
Your QOL for the incubator however is something that would benefit every player. It really sucks that you can't use pets you already have when you are incubating, you should absolutely be able to equip and customize other pets while that happens.
how? A "normal" player, or one that's not breeding, only needs two imprints to breed stuff. Only crossbreeders have a use for the third imprint, and it would benefit the breeding community overall because prices for rare kavats (something that is entirely optional for "normal" players to buy) would go up, even if no one could make infinite rare colored kavats, etc. It's a quality over quantity debate, really, and does not really effect people who don't breed pets.
It's not abnormal for breeders to have a lot of imprints, again, this might not affect the "normal" player, or you, but I've had over 500 imprints for years and it wasn't slowing Warframe down then so why place a cap for it so suddenly, and so low for people who breed pets. It takes a lot of combines to get a Kavat that is entirely one rare color with the preferred traits. (Something that has been made more trivial now with Kavats with three imprints, once you have one, you have infinite, which is bad for the market, imo)
Are you aware how much data they are or what that take up resources wise? It could be minscule even in large amounts for all either of us knows. No one has spoken to what it takes either way. Whereas things suggested like toggles as an example they've said can be resource intensive. But people seem amenable to toggles on everything.
It's not abnormal for there to be casual breeders or players who hold onto imprints to gift to clanmates and friends. Removing an imprint would negatively affect them just so that people running pet mills can make more profit. Of course it's not mandatory, I never said it was, my point is that something that was given to the community as a quality of life for the release of vascas shouldn't just be removed because hardcore breeders want more plat.
200 is a lot already, why do you need more? why 500 or 1000 surely you should be selling off "bad imprints" to recoup rush costs and make room for the more valuable imprints you are striving for. Do they not sell? Are you a dragon who must sleep on a hoard of imprints lest you scuff your scales on the floor?
It should be limited because the only reason DE ever puts in these limits is because it becomes a problem in the database. Imprints were the first random item to be added to the game that is stored on the servers, notice that every other system that has random information came with caps at launch and have only had them raised through purchases. Imprints didn't have a cap because the data is simpler than rivens and railjack parts until I'm guessing breeders hoarding thousands of them became a problem.
I feel like you are making judgement calls on me as a player rather than making points as to why the cap should at least be raised. I have to get rid of over 300 imprints just to hit the cap, I do sell off bad imprints as I've already stated, but for years I didn't know warframe.market let you sell them and didn't really want to do it on trade chat. The biggest problem I have is adarza imprints, as they are low gain and very slow to sell. I will probably be selling many of these, laboriously and one at a time, for credits because they go for 9p an imprint, which would still be okay in sets of two if they didn't gather so much dust. Doing that I still won't get sub 200 though.
