Is this at all possible to do this on a win32 system with sun java installers? I know that by default the jre does not contian a server jvm. But even when installing the jdk the public jre which is installed (and mapped to JAVA_HOME) does not contain a server jvm. In sun own README file (Sun README) they suggest copying the files:

For the past years, I manage Java like this: I download the installer, install it somewhere, package all files into a ZIP and then use that ZIP file to deploy Java anywhere. The installer will leave a lot of stuff in the registry and %WinDir%, etc. which you don't really need. This also allows me to move some files around (like the bin\server\jvm.dll or security related settings).

I use inno setup compiler, works well for my purpose. If you need the registry entries, you can export them, include them in the installer, include the files, and a little change here and there and you're done. Silent installer that configures things to the exact specifications you need.

For Java 11 (8 through 16), you can use AdoptOpenJDK, a website hosted by the java community. You can find .msi installers for OpenJDK 8 through 16 there, which will perform all the things listed in the question (Unpacking, registry keys, PATH variable updating (and JAVA_HOME), uninstaller...).

If you prefer an installer, there are several distributions. There is a public Google Doc and Blog post by the Java Champions community which lists the best-supported OpenJDK distributions. Currently, these are:

I tried installing the JAVA JDK on my laptop, provided by the installer on VS Code website as a "Coding pack for Java". It installed the JDK and the required extensions in VS Code. But then inside the editor, it didn't configure the JDK by itself. So I tried doing it manually and then I found that there is no "JDK" folder in the "Program Files" folder in C-drive. I tried to find everywhere inside that folder about the JDK, searched online at many places, and reinstalled it several times but still, nothing worked. I can't address the error. Please reach out to me if anyone knows the fix for it.

Solution A - Download to your computer, save it as DriverInstallPermissionsFix.bat to your Desktop or Downloads folder (or wherever you like). Then double-click to run the file. It may prompt you for Administrator access. After this runs, try running the Connectify installer again.

Solution B - Make sure that the Device Install Service is not set to disable. To do this:

Run the Connectify installer in safe mode. After this completes, you may reboot into Windows normally. You may need to run the installer one more time. However, it will not need to install the driver anymore and so should complete successfully.

You'll be redirected to a page with a list of install links. Look for your OS, choose the packaged installer (.msi for Windows or .pkg for macOS) and download it. Remember to install ALL features, as it won't work out of the box if you don't allow the installer to set JAVA_HOME. Then run it and voilà! You're done.

You can get your compressed OpenJDK from a number of different vendors such as Microsoft, Red Hat, Intel or anyone offering their fork of OpenJDK. They might even offer their own installer file. But to keep it simple we're using Adopt Open JDK once again.

Under System Variables, click New. Enter the variable name as JAVA_HOME. Enter the variable value as the installation path of the JDK (appending the \bin sub-folder at the end of the path). Mine was C:\Program Files\OpenJDK\OpenJDK11U-jdk_x64_windows_hotspot_11.0.15_10\jdk-11.0.15+10\bin.

where I don't have admin privileges, creating a WiFi hotspot. Not having admin rights, I can't use the built-in Mobile hotspot feature in the new Windows 10, nor I can install any third-party software. I searched the internet for some portable software that doesn't require admin rights to function, but I haven't been able to find anything so far.

I am trying to flash my xenon since it is not connecting to the internet, and I put it into listening mode.
I then tried to install the CLI, but it fails repeatedly. I tried running the installer as Administrator, and also updated npm and json. It still does not work. I first thought I might be running into errors because I was trying to install it over the companies network, and retried it over my own hotspot, but without succes. Does anyone know what the issue might be?

@koenent, you cannot install or run the Particle installer from C:\windows\system32 directory as it is protected. I suggest you place the installer exe file in a user directory (eg. Documents) and re-run the installation. When you want to run the Particle CLI, run it from a similar directory, NOT C:\windows\system32.

@peekay123 I managed to solve the issue. I contacted my colleagues from my company, and they told me the problem was due to the local network blocking the download of several features. I uninstalled all the particle software and then reinstalled using my phone hotspot. That worked out great!! Thanks for your support!!

Note: This app is being retired on January 29, 2024. The ability to view a map of all available Xfinity WiFi hotspots and securely auto-connect to them is available in the Xfinity app. Get more information about Xfinity WiFi.

I tried that but device manager doesn't show any network adapter. I bought a macbook air just last week and installed windows 10 (education) on it. I see only 'network controller' in device manager. On a related note, I did have problems installing Windows 10 on this macbook. After Bootcamp assistant created the windows install disk on a flash drive, the computer restarted but did not automatically go to the install disk to bbot up. I had to restart it again and hold the option key for it to do that. So I still do not get the bootcamp screen when I startup. Could my problem be related to that?

We could resolve the issue on a windows 8 machine by adding the installation directory of java in the "path" systemvariable. Once the "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_31\bin" is added, the command returns the correct output.

This workaround is not a good option in my opinion, because I don't want to setup some crazy GPO to hard code the installationdir into the systemvariable. I think the installer should handle this task for me.

First attempt: download stopped at 13% and the installer just sits there idle. Downloaded 6gb.
Second attempt: download started from 0%, got to 8% and stuck idle again. Downloaded +2gb.
Third attempt: download stopped almost as soon as it began. Downloaded

Forcing assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com to resolve to its second IP? I tried that and so far it's going, but it's so slow (1mb/sec) that restarting the installer without this hack is actually faster. What I mean is, without the hack I assume the first IP is used, and it gives 10-20mb/sec.

i have the same problem, i bought a new hard disk and installed windows and other games on it again, everything was fine except guild wars 2, the launcher stops the download randomly, i tried everything to figure out what it could be, also submit a ticket to support and did everything what they told me and still nothing works.

After disabling my firewall, however, the download was not smooth by any means. I still encountered some moments where my speed would drop to 0 and I'd need to reopen the launcher. It would pop the installer back up and my installation would continue where it left off.

In terms of safety, users will be happy to know that Baidu WiFi Hotspot is a perfectly safe app. The developers have implemented several safety features into the app. For one, it allows you to create a password to your hotspot. On top of that, it also allows you to block any device from accessing your internet. You can create a blacklist, and every device included in the list will never be able to re-access the network.

However, while Baidu WiFi Hotspot shines with its free price and simplicity, it is limited in its utility. For you to create a hotspot, you must be connected by wire cable to the modem. The app cannot extend a mobile connection, limiting its usefulness. The app also has no capability of tracking the internet history of the devices connected to it.

Overall, Baidu WiFi Hotspot is an excellent option if you are looking for a hotspot creator. It is simple and easy to use. Add in its decent speed, and you will have a nice home network. And while it has a few limitations, it has no apparent bugs that will dissuade you from using it.

The OpenJDK installer for Windows automatically sets the library path during installation. If you do not use the installer, complete the following steps to set the PATH environment variable permanently.
