I have been dabbling more and more with video lately and i am out of the loop on a quality editor. For my stills i use adobe lightroom, but for video I have been content with windows movie maker except that it doesnt support high bitrate 1080p nor 4k video. I returned my samsung NX500 because i didnt want to deal with 4k and got an A77 mkii. its 50mbps 1080p looks great, but i havent found an editor that doesnt throw away all that bitrate.
Movie maker supports 25mbps and it seems like corel videostudio x8 only supports 20mbps even though i think it will do a 70mbps 4k. Part of the reason I went with an A77 was to get higher quality video but what good is that if half of its detail is being thrown in the garbage?
I've tried also several other editing packages and for me none of them for some reason or other give the same quality,smooth, flicker free playback that VS X8 does. I think that this may depend on ones playback gear.
I have been using Sony Vegas Movie Studio for several years, and I have been pretty happy with it. I recently built a new PC to support 4K editing, and for my surprise Sony Vegas supported Intel Quick Sync Video (hardware enabled encoding of H.264). Sony Vegas is a quite solid application, but I have recently had some issues (=crashing) with a video stabilization plug-in.
