Hello again everyone. This question doesn't pertain specifically to
the TINspire exclusively....but I'd like to get your take on this??

Does anyone know if TI is going to put out a MAC version of the new TI-
Navigator system that is coming out in the spring? I seem to get
mixed answers regarding this. Anyone of have any insight on this?

Also, how about the Navigator system for the 83/84 plus calculators?
Can I get that in MAC format? And if not...does anyone know if TI has
plans to put out a MAC version of this system as well?

How about Connect to Class? Any ideas of a MAC version will be
available soon?

I have a MAC laptop for my classroom computer, and I"m getting
frustrated that TI isn't putting out MAC versions of programs, etc. as
quickly as Windows based operating systems.

Thanks for your help.

Sincerely,

Bob

I don't know if they are going to put out a mac version, but I got around this by running parallels on my mac and running the navigator on that.

Ellen,

Thanks very much for the information. I have Parallels on my mac
laptop as well. I have had a hard time getting my Parallels to work
with my Connect to Class software. Have you had any issues of Connect
to Class with Parallels as well?

I'm glad to hear you are using Navigator with Parallels. Are you
using both the regular navigator as well as the Nspire navigator
systems with Parallels? I haven't received my navigator systems
yet....so I'm hoping I can get it to work with Parallels.

Thanks, Ellen. I appreciate your help.

Hi Bob,
I ran the 84 navigator with parallels until they put a brand new PC in my room this year.  So I never tried it with connect to class.  Have you upgraded to parallels 5? I will be doing that this week on my new mac pro and see if it works.  I too am waiting for the new nspire navigator.  By the way, is anyone else having trouble with vista running the 84 Navigator?  That brand new pc (running vista) they gave me refuses to talk to the navigator. So I am running it on my old pc laptop instead which is definitely a pain.

I have used Nspire Navigator pretty extensively on both Parallels (4) and the free Sun VirtualBox and it works beautifully - just don't forget to go to the Devices menu and let it know that it needs to talk to the USB Access Point.

Connect2Class works fine too - but can only use the number of physical USB ports that your computer has - in this case, 2. No matter how many USB hubs you connect, it will only be able to speak to 2 devices at a time.

However, I also run BootCamp, and since this is accessing USB natively (rather than through the emulator) you can use Connect2Class with daisy-chained USB hubs.

Steve

With best wishes,
Steve

I don't know about Navigator for Macs, but this summer I was told by a
TI education rep that a Mac version of connect-to-class would be
coming by end of 2009, early 2010

So does anyone know why my PC running Vista won't run the 84 Navigator?
I have been using it for four years so this is frustrating.

Navigator is not certified to run with Vista. I've seen it work but
not incredibly stable. My opinion is future products will likely have
a Mac version, given that Nspire came out in the Mac. I can't imagine
them supporting backwards, ie the the 73/83/84 Navigator. Just my
opinion.

Ellen,

I never switched to Vista, but I thought I heard (read) something
about using "XP compatibility mode" for some programs when using
Vista. This might be something to look into that would make your
navigator software run better. Have you tried calling 1-800-TI-Cares?
They might also be able to guide you ... and they might not.

Hi Pam
Thanks for the suggestion, I have tried that by running it in the xp compatiblity mode but it didn't work.  The school will upgrade that computer to windows 7 and I will try again, then again when the new nspire navigator arrives.

I have just gotten an email from TI about this and it turns out that I need to upgrade the access point and get 3.2 software so that my 84Navigator will work with Vista and W7.  $350.

Hi, Ellen.

Thanks for the information. I talked to my technology administrators
yesterday, and they would prefer that if I can somehow swing using
TI84 Navigator and TINspire Navigator using Vista with Parallels
version 4 on my Macbook laptop that we go that direction instead of
downgrading to Windows XP. I told them I would do some checking to
see what I find out. I'm glad to hear that if we get the 3.2 software
that we can use the 84 Navigator with Vista. Do you think it will
work successfully with Parallels? Also, do you know....if I get the
84 Navigator and/or the Nspire Navigator (i'm going to ask about this
in a separate posting as well)...will I have to have Connect to
Class....or will I be able to accomplish what I could do with Connect
to Class with the Navigator systems?

Thanks, Ellen. I sure do appreciate your help with this. Please
share any further information you find out.

Bob:

Any version of Navigator will allow you to send and collect and
delete files from student devices. Connect to Class allows educators
who can't make the investment in Navigator to transfer files.

Hope this helps.
