Why would anyone want an obsolete OS?

Hi,

> Why would anyone want an obsolete OS?
Just to mention three obvious reasons, there are more:
* as mentioned on this group, OS 3.x versions contain known bugs,
especially in the CAS, that Nspires running OS 1.x and 2.x, or even
15-year-old TI-68k calculators, do not have;
* as mentioned on this group, OS 2.1.0.631 and 3.x flat out refuse to
work on some old Clickpad calculators that still contain boot2 1.1,
because boot2 1.1 is buggy and these OS versions are too large.
Therefore, an intermediate version needs to be successfully transferred
to said calculators first, so that the boot2 is updated to 1.4;
* users who don't need Lua don't have to pay for the larger RAM
consumption it yields (through the bigger OS and its larger data/bss needs).

I'm not sure what we are trying to do, but if you have the old OS (1.3 or 1.4) you have to make two or three updates to get to what you need. I think if you get the 1.7, then the "check for new software" option will send you the next version (2.0 or 2.1) and the the 3.2.
I had to do this a few years ago with the software and I think the hardware.

I have these files if you need them,

Correct.
I should mention that some members of this group have downgraded back
from 3.2.0.1212 to 3.1.0.392 after noticing, among other drawbacks,
severe speed regressions. And others are not upgrading in the first
place until arbitrary native code execution becomes available for
3.2.0.1212, letting users access the full power of the calculator.

It's really nice that TI allows downgrading this time. Somehow saved my world on handheld.

Best,

Thanks for the feedback everybody,
yesterday it was impossible to download TI OS's from tiplanet but it looks like its possible again :)

Just some thoughts about using old OS's for John Hanna
It is actually very natural in the computer world to use old an legacy software
for reasons of compability of devices and lybraries.
