Help with function entry statements

Hi All,

I need some help

I am working with lines of various ranges, not a piecewise function

If have type

f1(x)=2x+6 | -1<x<0 

 

the entry line converts it to

f1(x)= {2x+6,-1<x<0 

when I cut and paste it I get

f9(x)=piecewise(−2,−3<x<3)

How can I easily get one single { with selecting piecewise function

I get {" "} with the in between when I try and type one

I am creating an activity for students who are unfamiliar with the handheld and want to avoid too many menu functions
