I attended a T³ Hands-On Course last week and learned that I can
import Cabri FIG files into TI-Nspire.

Is there a way to convert a JPG bitmap file to a FIG vector file?

I searched the Web and could find nothing.

I assume here a JPG file with a black and white vector drawing (lines,
circles, etc.) readily discernible by a graphics software package.

I'm not sure if you already know this, but a JPEG is made up of
pixels, and a FIG (or any other vector file) is made up of
mathematical equations to construct the lines and circles. Therefore,
you can't convert a JPEG to a FIG, but you could convert a FIG to a
JPEG.

I know. I meant that an intelligent software package might be able to
detect the patterns in the JPG based on the arrangements of dots and
then convert those to a vector FIG file. It is ambitious but worth
asking.

This looks promising:

I will investigate further and report my findings.

After playing with Cabri II Plus some more, I realized I could just
import the JPG file as a background image, then trace over it with the
vectors. I can save the FIG file and then import that into a TNS
file. That will have to do for now.

Dear Luke Setzer,

Do you have an example .tns file that shows this? I'm just curious.
Thanks.

Sincerely,
-TJ

Dear Luke Setzer,

On top of the response I made earlier, how did you manage to get this
Cabri FIG to display on the TI-Nspire?

Sincerely,
-TJ

If you have a .fig file from Cabri II then you can go to TI-Nspire computer software and then choose Open Document then choose Files of Type (pull down menu) and choose Cabri Plus II Figure (*.fig) click on a Cabri II figure you have and TI-Nspire will convert what it can into a tns document.

Hope this helps,
Bryson
