The high school where I teach is slowly integrating the TI-Nspire into
our math classes. The TI-Nspire hasn't gotten to our AP Calc teacher
yet, but she does have a student with a non-CAS TI-Nspire calculator.
They're currently working on Riemann Sums in her class and she can't
transfer the files from the 84 to the Nspire. I've been drafted to
find a solution for this student, and I haven't been able to. Sean
Bird's area.tns file for the program library would fix the problem
except it isn't working on her calculator because (I think) it's not
CAS.

Is there a program out there somewhere in cyberspace which I could
load onto this student's calulator which would be similar??

Thank you for your help!!

I created one awhile ago, and then it got adapted for TImath.com. You can get it at this link:

You don't need CAS for the first few pages (unless they made changes), but you do for latter pages.

Thanks, Marc... the tns file was pretty cool, but they are looking for
a program that will work on the non-CAS like the latter pages do. We
have programs on the 84 that do this, so I'd think there's something
out there for the non-CAS, right??? If there isn't, maybe I can write
the programs for the 84?? Is it difficult to write programs on the
nspire? I've never tried.

I have another version which is completely non-CAS. I can dig it up,
but what specifically were you wanting from the latter pages so that I
can make sure?

By the way, with the graphing exploration, the 84 can't do the dynamic
changes with the number of rectangles, endpoints, or function anywhere
nearly as nicely as the Nspire can.

Now that I look at it, the TIMath version is quite extended from what I originally did. My non-CAS version has the graphing approach, and then compares the area models using a spreadsheet instead of a program. But if you like, the programs for the non-CAS would not be too difficult to add to it.

Yes, the programs are what we're looking for. I think this teacher
just wants her kids to be able to crunch the numbers and work from
there, so it would be great if it could be added. (She's looking for
programs that would calculate the Riemann Sums, Simpsons, Slopefield,
and Trapezoidal.) Thanks for answering all these questions! It is a
super help!
