Hello, colleagues,

We have a number of students who want to get their calculators out of Test Mode.  Unfortunately, their calculators are all at social distance from one another.

I know that they can exit test mode by connecting to a computer running Nspire software, if they have access to one.  Is there any other way?

(I sent them links to the software in April when it was free.  Did they install it?  Hmmm ....  Also, many don't have the USB cable any longer, and claim that their parents don't have a similar USB cable anywhere in the house. They usually charge from docking stations)

Thanks for any suggestions,
Michael

I have no idea.  But It’s nice to know I’m not the only one who gives info to the students and they ignore!  I told all my students to practice the upload w the BC mock video and I’m giving them quiz points.  But most are not doing it.  So very frustrating!

Well, if they don't have a USB cable they could be in trouble.  They should probably still be able to download a trial version, but if not...they can download the Computer Link software for free.  That basically allows them to send files back and forth. You can email them the exit press to test file, then they can use Computer Link to send the file to their calc to push it out of press to test.

This is the method that's worked best for us. Tell them to get a cheap mini USB cable from Amazon or something, they aren't hard to find. Although they aren't as common as they once we're.

I usually have to remind them that a Sony PS3 USB cord for the controller works, and they amazingly can find it!

Lana, you are definitely not alone. My students not only ignore what I tell them, they say I should be "condemned" for including detailed nspire instructions in an otherwise traditional statistics course. This is how much they appreciate new technology. I even bought 200 handhelds for them so they wouldn't have a financial burden to use technology.

Lol, this is always the case! No cables, possibly no install of software, etc. There is definitely a hard reset that I used to use, and I called it the Vulcan death grip! I had instructions written down at school on a sticky note. It required putting yourself into a difficult yoga position and wishing you had a third hand or twelve fingers.....let’s see if someone in the group has this offering for you!

I think Heidi is referring to the maintenance menu achieved by pressing
Doc EE Enter and pressing the Reset button on the back. However, if they selected something like remove OS, then they would need cables to install a new OS. I think this may not solve their issue.
Perhaps a solution would be to find a friend with a TI-Nspire and a cable and to sanitize and do Exit Press-to-Test outside at a distance :)

Blessings,
Sean Bird

Been listening.

Perhaps it’s time to make Navigator work online…

Who remembers ‘Odyssey’?

Thanks, all!

I agree with Sean - the Doc-EE-Enter-Reset only has options that require you to reset the Operating System.  Also hard to do without cables, and something to connect the Nspire to!  I passed on the info about using Computer Link and your PS3 cables - thanks for the tips!

Michael

All,

Computer Link does not support CXII units but TI-Nspire Student (and of course Teacher) Software does.

In order to exit test mode using student software one needs to:

1.       Launch TI-Nspire software

2.       Go to Content Explorer in the Window Tab

3.       Drop the “Exit Test Mode.tns” file (attached for your convenience) onto the attached device. See screenshot below:

Please contact TI-Cares™ customer support if you have more questions or need additional help.

Best regards,

Gosia Brothers

I missed an important step. Exit Test Mode.tns file needs to be dropped onto Press-to-Test folder on the device.
