I can run TI CAS Student Software 5.3 but after I install 5.4 and try to run it , I get this message:
TI Student Software 5.4 Error.jpg

What's going on? I have Windows 11 and both 32 and 64-bit Java installed (the message seems to have something to do with a Java Virtual Machine)

I solved it by manually deleting the install directory after running the uninstall routine. That routine left behind some files the new version didn't like, apparently.
I'm leaving this thread up so if you have a similar problem in the future, you'll know how to fix it.

Hi Tom,

I am really glad to see you got it worked out. I had just been typing an email up to you. Below is the body of that email just in case others see this issue in the future.

  • The java installed on the system should not matter, as the application bundles our own java. It may be that for some reason there was a failed install, and trying again might help.
  • Second and perhaps more helpful, according to the system requirements for 5.4 it is fully supported on Windows 11 provided it is a 64bit OS: https://education.ti.com/en/products/computer-software/ti-nspire-cx-cas-student-sw?category=specifications.  We have seen a similar Java error caused by permissions so [Right-Click] [Run As Administrator] of the program shortcut may be all that is needed to workaround that error.

If you’re still having issues, I would suggest reaching out to TI-Cares via email: https://education.ti.com/en/forms/global_forms_customersvcform or phone call 972.917.8324

Happy to help if I can, but the folks in the customer service group are really awesome!

I tried running as administrator, disabling my anti-virus, changing my firewall settings  and numerous installs and uninstalls.
The TI diagnostics showed no errors and TI-CARES had no idea about leftover files causing problems although I do give them credit for trying and for their responsiveness.

Thanks for your feedback Tom. I will pass it along along with the other info so we have this to help others in the future. Glad you're up and running now.
