Does anyone know if plans are afoot for a TI-Nspire CAS app for Android/Windows ?
Cheers.

FYI

The Nspire iPad applet is amazing.  Before I used it I thought probably better than a handheld but not as good as the computer software.  However, the instant I touched it I was hooked.  Having the touch screen, the bigger real-estate, and the metaphor of how an iPad operates just goes together wonderfully with the Nspire.  Yes, I just played with it for 15 minutes and I am sure there are limitations for what we do (some of which have already been pointed out), but, much to my surprise I am BLOW AWAY by how RIGHT the iPad is for the Nspire.

Caveat -- I am a high school math teacher at all levels and a knowledgable iPad user.

I agree, I think that it is a very TRUE implementation of the TI-Nspire, it is fast, like the computer software, I like the color coding of the page types, grabbing and moving things works naturally, all around kudos to the developers.

I have found two things I would like implemented:

1.  Allow access to the Nspire keyboard while in a Wizard, not sure why this was overlooked.  An example why this is needed: In NormalCdf, you can't insert the infinity symbol as the upper limit (I found a work around, but it is not great ... copy the infinity symbol that is pre-filled in the lower limit and paste it to the upper limit, or use a number that is very large in comparison to the mean and sd)

2.  I noticed that Script Editor is not implemented on the iPad, which I take to mean the Lua Script Editor.  I could however edit and make changes to an Nspire program that I left open in a document.  There is, however, no way (I could find) to insert a new Nspire program editor.  I think that if we can edit and make changes to a program that already exists in a document, then you should be able to create a new one as well.

Hi Dennis,

Regarding the Nspire program editor, you can access it to create a new one by creating a Calculator page.  In the menu options at the bottom you'll see Functions & Programs.  This is the same as it's on the software and handheld.
It is a little strange not to have the equivalent of the doc button to insert a program that way, or to adjust the page layout.  But I'm only just getting around to play with it a bit so I maybe I've missed something.

Thanks Marc, I missed that on the menu.  Glad to know it's there.

I could not find any page layout either, or any way to re-size the panes if the page had already been split before going on the iPad.

That's correct at the moment there is no way to split pages or adjust splits as far as I know...

Just a question on your comment :

What iPad model do you have ? I myself have the iPad 2, and while it's reasonably fast enough to perform all the usual things, it sometimes feels a tiny bit sluggish sometimes. Maybe newer iPads run it faster ?

I have the New iPad (iPad 3) 64 GB, 4G.  I loaded a couple of documents that are known to be sluggish (i.e. get the clock) on the handheld and I did experience that at all on my iPad.

Dennis, could you redact the last sentence?  Did you leave out a 'not'   or   did you insert an extra 'at'?
[I have the latest [i thought it was ipad4--the second release in 2012] and it seems smooth]

Two of my first observations that impressed me a lot were the keyboard and the PHet simulations
1.  The keyboard is great! I especially like the arrows. All keyboards should have arrows. This keyboard really sets the TI-Nspire app apart from any other calculator apps. Quite superior!
     - Notice the blue bar above some of the 'buttons.' Recall that for some TI-Nspires the CTRL button is blue. So when you are wondering how do I "ctrl enter" to get an approximate, then just long tap Enter and you'll see that option, in addition to ans, and carriage return.
     - A surprising find came when I was looking to use the subscript. I found it with a long tap on VAR.

2. When you open the Simulation folder that comes with the app, you see two great files that were done with Lua and work great on the TI-Nspire handhelds. The Energy Skate Park is especially exciting, because this is one of the many exceptional PHet simulations for inquiry learning. None of the PHet simulations really worked with tablets until now. (More info here and here about PHet on tablets.) Talk about a potential selling point for the TI-Nspire app. Many of the Science Nspired activities use Lua.
