Disclaimer:  I am not a Tinn-R user.  I'm not even an R user.  I am a desktop support technician and lab administrator.

What version of Tinn-R should be installed as a starting point for students and/or faculty?
  • Pre-release:  For most software, installing a "pre-release" is asking for trouble (even if it's only minor), but I see in another post here by one of the developers that the pre-release is stable enough for use.  The "pre-release" status (not sure about the version number) has been around for many months.  Is this like some other OSS where it is eternally in "beta" and that is what everyone uses because the "stable" version is so old and feature-deficient.
  • "Latest" (4.0.3.5):  Last updated over a year ago, and without a change log (that I can find), it's hard to know how much is different since.  I'd be surprised if there aren't known bugs.
  • "Penultimate" (4.0.3.4):  Is this a language translation issue?
  • 4.2.17.0:  Seemingly undocumented, recently updated and often-downloaded version in between.
Thank you for any insights.

Hello,

We suggest to install the latest pre-release version (PRE-RELEASE
(oct/10/2016): Tinn-R_5.01.01.00_setup.exe) available in both: Tinn-R
web site and SourceForge.

Thank you for the response.

I'd like to be able to track (centrally as an admin, not individually as a user) what version is installed.

I can't be certain from when I first checked months ago, but has the version number (5.01.01.0) changed between this oct/10/2016 release and what came before (and before that)?

If the version number isn't changing, how do I know which release(s) is/are on all the computers I manage?

If the version number is changing, any chance you can generate change logs for tracking fixes/features by (pre-release) version?

Thanks.

Hello,

The version number always changes, even though pre-release, and we add
new items in What is new.

The new stable version (5.01.02.00) has been released.

Best,

I'd like to add, as a regular user of Tinn-R, that recently, a new and very convenient feature was added to Tinn-R: the "Check for Update" menu item. This makes maintenance much simpler, as is most cases, you can simply ask the users to "check" this, occasionally.

Cheers.

Marc
