The more global health researchers and implementers utilize the 5-SPICE framework and describe their experiences within its logic structure, the more useful it will become for future users. It is still unclear how the five elements of this framework will interact in the full variety of global health contexts available for analysis, but with time and experience, we will be able to build a clearer understanding of trends and commonalities. Biochemistry provides a just illustration for how this science may be built: the Krebs cycle, for example, is a complex set of pathways that were each discovered sequentially but then were unified thematically to conceptually form a beautifully simple process that explains some of the most critical biochemical processes in the body. Like a puzzle, the discovery of each smaller pathway contributed a piece to the final solution. What guided this process was a common pursuit and mutually agreed upon conceptual framework. Similarly, the 5-SPICE method may allow us to consider all the moving elements, the particular causative pathways that coalesce to make a CHW program successful or not in its own unique context.

Results: The 55-SPICE charts reveal a variety of insights that come from a more complex understanding of how essential CHW projects interact and influence each other in their unique context. Some have been well described in the literature previously, while others are exclusive to this article. An analysis of how best to compensate CHWs is also offered as an example of the type of insights that this method may yield.

Sanhuang chicken is a popular native breed in China and well-known for delicious flavour. Spices could enhance the chicken meat flavour and work well in preservation. Chinese 5-spice blend (CS) and garam masala (GM) are routinely using spices in China and Pakistan, respectively. The flavour profiles of Sanhuang chicken breast (CB) and its blends with CS and GM were obtained by electronic nose (E-nose), solid-phase microextraction gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (SPME GC-MS) and GC-ion mobility spectrometry (GC-IMS). Principal component analysis (PCA) efficiently discriminated the aroma profiles of three chicken formulations. The GC-chromatographs revealed the significant aroma alterations of chicken breast meat after marination with spices. Aldehydes were the major contributors of chicken aroma, while most of the aromatic hydrocarbons were generated by spices. Almost all chicken key-compounds produced by oxidation reaction were either reduced or eliminated by marination, showing the antioxidation capacity of spices leading to meat preservation. GC-IMS is not only a rapid and comprehensive detection method, but also proved to be more sensitive than GC-MS. The substantial role of both traditional spices in enhancing flavour quality of chicken meat, and their exposure as functional ingredients in Chinese and Pakistan cuisines could lead to the cross-cultural meat trade opportunities.

This paper provides an overview of the long-term base current instability in the AlGaAs/GaAs heterojunction bipolar transistor (HBT), which is a main mechanism governing the HBT long-term current gain drift and thus a major concern for the HBT reliability. Topics covered include: (1) types of base current instability and their underlying physical mechanisms; (2) leakage currents in the HBT and their relevance to the reliability; (3) electrothermal interaction and their impact on the HBT reliability; (4) analytic model for predicting the HBTs mean time to failure (MTTF); and (5) SPICE implementation and simulation of HBT circuit reliability.
