ivejust learnt serif are no longer doing webplus. What is the alternative? I thought it was Affinity Publisher. It looks very similar but does it have the ability to upload? The tutorials say document and not website so need clarification.
I recently received a recommendation from a computer expert to use WebPlus X4 by Serif as a swift way to design a reasonably professional-looking website. After some research, it appears that it provides the nuts and bolds, but I am not yet convinced about flexibility in design aspects. I am quite certain I won't want to use the canned templates.
Does anyone have any experience to report with this particular software? Will I be able to do anything using GoLive to supplement the work I would do in WebPlus X4? Also, do you have other recommendations in the way of other software?
While people using this product can certainly take a simplified approach by using WPX4 to just customise one of the many the exisiting templates to specific requirements, it's also a simple matter to build a website completely from scratch.
On the other hand, WPX4 has a huge range of features that enable quick creation of truly stunning and sophisticated websites. However, to take full advantage of all the features WPX4 has to offer, there is a fairly steep learning curve. But, once mastered, I know of no other web design software that comes close to Serif's WPX4 for speed, ease of use, and features - it is outstanding software, and for the relatively tiny price, a bargain.
Yes, I know - hand coding experts generally scorn WYSIWYG but that'll change - WYSIWYG using products like WPX4 is quick, versatile, and hard to beat for building small to medium size websites. You can even download a free "starter" vesion from
www.serif.com to try it out - go to Most of the coding produced by WPX4 is W3C compliant, and coding that isn't compliant is insignificant and doesn't appear to have any practical impact on the useability of finished websites. Keep in mind that in the whole of the Internet, there are few websites in my experiance that are fully W3C compliant anyway.
Finally, I have never found a product support service as good as Serif's. I never have to wait more than 24 hours for a response to a technical question, and every time, Serif has given me the right answer to solve the problem. In addition, there is a network of Serif user forums on the web, including not only answers to user questions, but add-ons, snippets and gadgets if you want to hunt around for them. Of course, Serif has it's own user support forum too.
And yes, you can integrate hand coded html into WPX4, either by inserting HTML "snippets" into an exisiting WPX4 web page you've already created, or by adding an entire HTML page to the website. So, integrating what you produce within your HTML Editor into a WPX4 website shouldn't be a problem.
As you can see, I'm a Fan of Serif's WPX4 (and some of their other products too), but for good reason. I can only convey to you my personal experiences, and frankly, I just haven't been able to find a better solution for the price than WebPlus X4. I strongly recommend this product for any small to medium website project.
