Earthquakes happen daily around the world, with hundreds of millions of people living in earthquake prone regions. An early warning can help people prepare for shaking, but the public infrastructure to detect and alert everyone for an earthquake is costly to build and deploy. We saw an opportunity to use Android to provide people with timely, helpful earthquake information when they use Google search, and a few seconds warning to get themselves and their loved ones to safety if needed.

In California, Washington, and Oregon, we partner with the ShakeAlert team to distribute alerts provided by their system. ShakeAlert uses a network of 1675 seismic sensors to detect earthquake shaking, and analyzes that data to determine the location and size of the earthquake. The ShakeAlert system then sends a signal to Android Earthquake Alerts System, which then sends an earthquake alert directly to Android users.

Tapping on either of the alerts will present Earthquake safety information, which consists of simple steps that you can take to keep yourself safer after an earthquake. It also provides a detailed map of an early estimate of the earthquake location and magnitude.

I have notifications set to on so if the camera has an alert, my phone sounds a notification. Today it is not working. No notifications but there are alerts downloaded and waiting to be viewed when accessing the app.
I have spare phone which is also not receiving notifications which points to an app fault not the phone.
This happened a few weeks ago. Randomly the notifications stopped. I tried everything including deleting and readding the app but nothing worked, then suddenly notifications started again.
Anyone else having issues?

Launch the YI/Kami Home App > Settings > Smart Detection Settings > toggle Motion Detection on. If using a battery camera, launch the Y/Kami Home app > Click inside the camera thumbnail > Click Mode > Motion Detection always On.

I have an updated (ios 11.2.5) iPhone 6. I've recently narrowed it down that I'm not getting text alerts/vibration from my Android-users only. (I'm getting all other alerts: email, iMessage, news, etc.) The text message doesn't pop up lighting my locked screen either. If I push the home button, I see it's there.

I've tried everything from restarting, toggling iMessage off/on, notification settings, etc. and searched thread after thread with no luck in fixing my issue. DND is off. Silence mode is off. No Apple Watch, but I do have other Apple devices. Not sure if that matters.

Double check the threads that you aren't getting alerts for to make sure you haven't hidden the alerts for those threads. In the main conversation window, put your finger on the conversation and swipe toward the left. Make sure it says "Hide Alerts". If it says "Show Alerts", tap on it.

Emergency Bypass is only relevant if DND is turned ON. It allows those people to ring through even if you have DND enabled. I believe that something else happened and change that as coincidental. But, however it happened, I'm glad you've got it working.

I received an Amber Alert on my personal S9+ and my work issued S10e (S10e updated to Android 10 and still waiting for my S9+ to get it). Before anyone yells at me, I'm NOT complaining about the alert system itself or the time of call. The issue is that I still can't dismiss the alert on either phone as of the writing (16 hours after the alert was sent).

The alert has repeated several time today, and goes off with that wonderful sound every time I reboot. I tried deleting the messages themselves, I've turned off the AA's in settings, but it's still going off. I can turn off my personal phone, but I have a job where I have to be on call 24/7, and turning off my work phone is just not an option for me.

Thank you for posting your concern in the Community; not able to dismiss the amber alert on both of your phones can be quite inconvenient. Pressing OK on the alert message should result in the acknowledgement of the alert, and it should get moved to your SMS app.

Like I said, I don't question the value of the AA system, but there's clearly bugs to be ironed out. And since I have a work phone that can't be shut off at night or set to "Do not disturb" (because I have to be available for work-related calls 24/7), it's an issue for me. I wish I could opt out of the Amber Alerts on that one phone at least, but it appears that the Alert Ready system overrides all user preferences.

@Yeegrek, it sounds like a software bug - you may be able to "delete" the alert in the Emergency Alerts master section - on my Pixel that involves me going to Setttings > then searching for Emergency Alerts, and is one of the first queries.
That may bump it as read.

As to your other point - theres a couple things.
Not sure what your on-call requirements are for your work, but you can setup some pretty handy rules for DND - for example if its just one number or set, you can omit that to always bump through DND - there is also the call-twice rule where when the same number calls in x minutes (normally 15 minutes), it will bump out of DND.

But if that doesn't work for your work, there is one workaround to the Amber Alerts. In Canada, Amber Alerts are only transmitted on the LTE network* (could be WiFi too, someone from Rogers would know for sure) - so if DND rules don't work for you, all you need to do to not get the Amber Alerts is switch your phone to not connect to LTE/4G - so H, 3G, HSPA+ or something like that - you'll find that in your mobile network settings, each android phone is a little different. But setting network type to maximum should stop the Amber Alerts on that phone (and if they come over WiFi too turning off WiFi)

Hope that helps.

I understand the covid crisis is huge. Seriously, I do. But I've received 39(!) Emergency alerts. The same one. Over. And over. And over. Once in English, then again in French. What exactly is going on. (Just got another as I was typing. Grand total of 40.)

I can appreciate your situation, getting so many alerts, and not able to dismiss them can be quite bothersome. If the alerts are still happening, we can submit a ticket for you. Please send us a private message at @CommunityHelps. You can find details about our private messaging in this blog.

The ISPs have no choice but to broadcast the alerts as received from the emergency alert system. The ISPs have no control over which provincial authority generates the alerts, when the alerts are generated or how many times they are repeated. Any complaints should be directed to your local provincial MP.

I have an iPhone 13, iOS 15.0.2. I do not get audible alerts on text messages sent from android users when I am active on my iPad, iMac, or MacBook. The only time I get an alert from an android sender is if I am active on my iPhone. I have no problem with alerts from other iPhone users. I do get the messages from android senders, but I don't know it until I go look at my phone, which could be hours later. When I pick up my phone, I will see the banner of a message.

Thank you for your suggestion, but it didn't solve the issue. I got the test message from the android user but did not get an audible alert while my iPad was being used. The message showed on my phone when I picked it up.

When I first got my iPhone, I set the message notifications to repeat, but I wasn't getting any. After a a chat session and phone call with Apple support, I talked to an advanced specialist, and we eventually discovered that my iPad, which had notifications off, was overriding my iPhone settings. I changed the settings on the iPad, and that took care of that issue. Not sure if these issues are related or not.

Actually, the issue is not resolved. A previous issue was resolved. The issue remains: If I am active on my iPad, iMac, or MacBook, I do not get audible alerts for text messages from android users. If I am active on my iPhone, I get the alerts.

The Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) system sends warnings for weather and other emergencies. On my AT&T Moto X, the alert is a super loud sound and an alert box with an OK button. Once you push OK, the alert vanishes. Is there any way to recall it and see the alert text again? On iOS, WEA alerts are visible in the usual notifications pane. That doesn't seem to be the case for Android. Does anyone know if there are plans to fix this?

I use an Android phone and had the same reaction you experienced. I made several attempts to get info via some emergency info links I'd saved to my home screen to no avail. .BUT I found the alert story by visiting a local TV news website like bay area abc7news.com, where a red Breaking News banner appears at the top of the page. I clicked on Amber Alert link & it took me to the story & details.

You might have to inpsect the alert/pop up using Appium Inspector and get details about it. As for example in our app, an alert text comes up as a TextView object. Also, you might have to check if these alerts are displayed under native context. Could you give more details if your app is a native one or hybrid?
