Screensaverbehavior while you're inside channels may vary from the default Roku behavior while on the Home screen. This would be expected, depending on the channel. Some channels use their own screensaver, while others may use the screensaver with Roku logos raining down. I'd recommend reaching out to the channel provider directly to share your feedback and inquire further.
When video is playing, the system selects the "Roku rain" screensaver as a fallback because it uses a lot less resources than the Aquatic Life screensaver (or other graphically intense ones). This lets the channel continue to run while the screensaver is active, something that might not be possible otherwise depending on the system resources.
Can you please provide more information about the issue you are experiencing? Are you not seeing your screensaver when your device is paused on a specific channel or does it happen on all channels when paused? When on the Home screen, does your screensaver appear?
It happen on all channels when paused, no exceptions. In no case does no screensaver activate, and it is always "raining Rokus". On homescreen, my chosen screensaver appears. I contacted YouTube TV as it is my most viewed app, and they claim no control over screensaver (and it certainly is not theirs that is showing up). Is there really any value in contacting other apps? This seems like a Roku dodge. Also I bought a screensaver that I can't use; how do I get refund? Thanks for trying!
The raining Roku screensaver is always used when video is paused and the channel doesn't supply its own screen saver. This is a system level function - it's the low resource screensaver that can be safely run without disturbing the main channel. When the video decoder is not in use, the user-chosen screensaver can be activated. There is no way to change system behavior here.
100% incorrect. Aquatic used to work (yesterday) for years while YouTube was on. Now the only time it works is on the Home Screen. It just started screwing up today after the Roku update. I don't want the dumb Roku Rain screensaver. I want my aquarium back. I tried disabling and re-enabling and it's still broken.
I recently got the newest OS upgrade on my Roku Ultra and the only screensaver that works is the Logo rain one. Regardless of which Theme I run its not the Aquatic Life screensaver. I've restarted the player many times since the issue arose. Any help or ideas would be awesome.
since the latest update, I cannot get any screensaver on any of my 4 TVs, each with its own Roku stick. The only screensaver that displays is the Roku screensaver on all the TVs. Tried the aquarium and others and there seems to be no way to 'set' the screensaver. The only button that will work after the selection is the 'home' button.
I use the Roku clock screensaver for years now. Recently however Roku has been overriding my screensaver preference with a purple font Roku logo screensaver, I think it's called raining logos, I'm not certain. Why is Roku overriding my own screen shot preferences these last two weeks? The purple font screensaver is causing me problems (long story but I"m sensitive to that color).
The only solution I've found to this is to disable screensavers entirely but that's really a last resort. Any insight or suggestions is appreciated, I don't think I can delete the purple font screensaver from the device. Rebooting the device etc didn't make a difference.
I've seen a Purple Roku screen saver - and yes - I think it may be in Prime where I see it. You could look for a setting within Prime. Otherwise, you could tell Amazon that you don't like it, and something may (or may not) be done about it.
If you leave an app open -- not streaming, just open -- and the Roku goes into screensaver mode, it is possible that the app will either use its own screen saver, or an installed screensaver apart from your standard one. The raining logos is one that I've seen apps use. And that's not a new thing, I've seen that for some time.
interesting - generally what happens is I fall asleep during a show I am watching, often on Amazon Prime Video, I guess that is what you mean by an app. So, after that show ends, it winds up in the Amazon app interface. I guess you are saying that from there, it might not go back to my chosen screensaver but to a different one. Interesting. I suspect there is nothing I can do inside of Amazon Prime to prevent that from happening.
thanks! yes, the biggest thing I don't like is Amazon overriding my screensaver preferences.... I went into Prime and don't see any settings that address this, I guess I'll contact Amazon directly. I don't like my chances there of getting any change to happen, but it's helpful I guess to know....
closing the loop on this and thanks all for the help. I have determined this issue is specific to Prime (I guess it may happen in other apps, I don't know, but it definitely happens in Prime which I use the most). I have alerted Amazon tech support that Prime overrides the default screen saver selection users make in Roku. If this ever gets fixed I'll report back.
The explanation I eventually got (not from Roku, so take it with a grain of salt) was that your Roku is still technically active when paused, so it reaches for the designated low-resource screensaver, rather than the user-set default.
That's not a universal truth. Some apps do resort to the default screen saver. Some app have their own screen saver option. However, Roku may indeed do what you describe for those that don't have a certain coding, or as a fall-back if resources are low.
ETA in case it needs to be clarified: a Roku employee confirmed the Roku's supposed to be showing Logo Rain, not your selected 'default' screensaver, but could not tell me why. The explanation that LR is low-resources screensaver set as a true default came from a forum discussion elsewhere.
I'm not going to argue anything. I will, however, tell you how my stuff works. And it's as described. Some stuff goes to the Roku screensaver, and some stuff goes to an app defined screensaver (where you pick the screensaver from within the app), and some use a simple screensaver such as your contact described. I really don't care what someone says will happen; I know what actually happens on my Roku devices.
You mean I'm not the first with this idea? I'm shocked. ;-)
I know the huge amount of that. Every developer should write at least one matrix rain app. From web in JS to ascii console app in C. :D But to be honest, I'm already a bit tired of it. This one is a kind different. It uses simple pixels instead of characters and noisy blending to fade out in different colors. The music was the trigger to create it. Just another matrix rain scribbling on the side. ^^
Yes, just joking :P You know that developers like to show off how smart they are by writing complicated code. Preferably in an error-prone one liner. Ok, in Pico 8 you have no space for clean code anyway. The limitations force you to think smart and the font for using extreme abbreviations. That's the idea. But for me, it's not always fun to read others code. ^^ Especially when it's obfuscated or just terrible written. Anyway, other code can be interesting to discover magical things and learning new stuff. But in this case, I'm focused on the result, the art and the game. Not for sharing code. Especially for music carts. ...
Good to know that poke(0x5F2F, 0/1) pauses and resumes the music at the position. Thanks. But I'm fine with that to restart the music in this case. First I used music(-1, time) to fade in/out to reduce clicks in the sound. But turning music on and off isn't the main feature and doesn't really matter.
I currently more interested in controlling the volume at runtime. Preferably without hacks (poke, not documented). Use case: A game of positioned music or sound origins. Where you can change the volume while the music is playing. For example by distance between a music source (position) and the player. I could change the sounds in memory using poke. But I would prefer a more comfortable solution. With music(id, time) you can fade in/out over time. My suggestion is to set this volume to an absolute value. Dynamically changeable, possible in every step in e.g. draw or update function. ... And for the web player, I wish that there is a volume control instead of just on/off button. Similar like in the native player. Even if the device or mixer in OS can do that. Chiptune can be perceived very loudly. Some carts can cause heart attacks. In browser you can not define a different volume per domain or tab. Also the OS mixer can only change the master volume of the program. So watching videos in background while testing carts on website can be a bit annoying.
It does not work, since Adobe Flash was discontinued. Please update. This is the only Emoji Rain Screensaver, I see on the Internet. Since the End of Life of Adobe Flash, the screensaver is now a black screen.
The xscreensaver package, besides being an eye-candy screensaver, has a Matrix like module called XMatrix and several dozen others. Worth a quick review. Most of the modules have configuration options.
I wanted to pretend to be in the matrix, googled "matrix screen saver". Followed the instructions and boom, I was done. I was little skeptical at first as I was reading a few comments that mentioned they were unsuccessful and faced some wrong turns. I am not a computer expert, but this has to be the easiest setup ever. I also have a couple of malware and virus protection software and did not detect any foul play.
