"Ghost" is a song by Canadian singer Justin Bieber. It was sent to French radio stations through Universal Music Group on September 10, 2021, as the sixth and final single from his sixth studio album, Justice.[1][2] Jon Bellion wrote the song with Bieber and produced it with the Monsters & Strangerz (Jordan K. Johnson and Stefan Johnson), alongside Michael Pollack.[3] Commercially, "Ghost" reached number one in Malaysia and Singapore and charted within the top ten in Canada, Indonesia, Ireland, Lebanon, the Philippines, and the United States.

Bieber explained that his objective with the creation of "Ghost" was to "make people feel like there is hope and that the trauma and the hurt that you feel isn't gonna last forever".[4] In a Zoom playback of Justice, he acknowledged that 2020 "has been a really challenging year where we've lost loved ones and relationships" during the COVID-19 pandemic. Bieber went on to say that the song's hook "works for this quarantine situation" since "we're not relating and connecting in the same way", which in turn "has allowed us to only really have these memories".[5] On February 20, 2022, American singer-songwriter Jon Bellion, who was involved in the songwriting and production of "Ghost", also explained through a tweet that he wrote the song about his late grandmother.[6]

"Ghost" is an uptempo grime influenced[7] pop rock and synth-pop ballad.[8][9][10][11] The song is set in the key of D major with a tempo of 77 beats per minute.[12] It meshes electronic dance music (EDM) with drum and bass and makes use of a folky acoustic guitar, busy programmed drums, and shimmering EDM synthesizers.[13][14][15][16] Uproxx's Bianca Gracie described the track as leaning into the adult contemporary genre "with its radio-friendly acoustic guitar riffs".[17] The song's chattering beats give way to an acoustic guitar strum before the two sounds are brought together on the chorus.[13][18] Lyrically, "Ghost" deals with grief caused by the absence of a loved one, with Bieber singing: "I'll settle for the ghost of you / I miss you more than life."[13][14][19] Catherine Walthall of American Songwriter remarked that the song does not "exclusively serve in an elegiac fashion", in that while it is likely about losing a loved one to death, it can also act "as a comfort for those battling the woes of long-distance or separation".[3]

To promote "Ghost", Bieber teamed up with Dolby Laboratories to create a long-form commercial for Dolby Atmos including the song.[20] A day later, Billboard chart director Gary Trust announced that the song started being officially promoted to US pop radio.[21] Bieber performed the song at the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards, where he sported a hoodie covering most of his face and was accompanied on set by large ice blocks.[22][23]

The song received critical acclaim by music critics. Allison Stewart of The Washington Post saw "Ghost" as the best song on Justice, writing that the "rafter-rattling ballad" is "perfectly suited to the unique concerns of quarantine".[11] Similarly, Los Angeles Times pop music critic Mikael Wood considered it one of the album's highlights, noting that the song's drums "punches up a vaguely creepy emo sentiment".[15] Jason Lipshutz of Billboard listed it ninth in his ranking of the best songs on Justice, believing that "Bieber drops one of the best vocal performances on the album here and carries the concept through".[18] The Evening Standard's David Smyth felt the song's synths were one of the many musically enjoyable aspects on Justice.[16] NME's Will Lavin wrote that the track "hits hard but imparts a healing guitar riff to cushion the blow".[8] Anna Clara Ribeiro from PopMatters found it to be the most intriguing song on Justice in terms of production, specifying "not so much for any of the sounds that prevail in it", but rather "for where each of them is placed". Ribeiro also called it a good lyrical moment of the album.[13] Baby A. Gil of The Philippine Star thought the song "effortlessly juggles grief and hope while depicting forever love".[24] Consequence of Sound's Valerie Magan was less positive about the track, feeling its "impact remains as barren as the imagery".[25]

Bieber called Keaton and asked her to be in the video, to which she accepted the offer and expressed fondness for the song.[45] Keaton previously shared a brief interaction with Bieber in 2015 during her appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and admitted having a slight crush on him after being shown his Calvin Klein campaign.[54] On October 6, 2021, Bieber and Keaton shared a teaser of the video on their respective Instagram accounts.[55] Speaking about her experience working with Bieber, Keaton said it was "friendly, open, loose and unique", adding that he "was kind to everyone and his team was perfection".[56] While Keaton had never been in a music video before, she directed two of them for Belinda Carlisle's singles, "Heaven Is a Place on Earth" and "I Get Weak".[53][56]

But Deadsuit, your android-like protagonist, makes for a slightly rusty-feeling companion at times, lacking the grace and elegance of Nintendo's Samus Aran, and the nimble dexterity of Team Cherry's nameless knight. It will tide you over until Silksong arrives, for sure, but it also never quite sings in the way you'd hope.

I enjoyed Ghost Song overall, but that middle act slump did almost kill it dead for me, too, which is a shame, as underneath it all, this is a very accomplished Metroid-like for such a tiny dev team - and it will certainly fill that Hollow Knight shaped hole in your life while we wait for Silksong, especially if you're a Game Pass subscriber. There's still plenty to admire about what Old Moon have made here, but there are enough fluffed notes in the mix that it just stops short of being a harmonious whole.

I am so frustrated I am sure someone knows the answer to this question but I have yet to find it. I just upgraded to IOS 7 on my iPhone and I upgraded my iTines to thelatest and greatest version. Now when I connect my phone to iTunes and look at the phone under device I see that there are a number of songs listed...all are greyed out and can not be selected. NONE of these songs are on my iPhone. I AM using iTunes Match and have been since Jan 2013. I had a similar issue with the last upgrades and for the life of me can not remember how I fixed it. I have a feeling that I had to completely eliminate everything from my library which is something that I do not want to do.

Most but not all of these songs are in my Itunes Music. Originally the all were there but in my attempt to solve the problem I deleted some from my Itunes (on purpose) to see if any individual some was the problem.

=*= This is caused by the song(s) getting corrupted on the device, so for example, if you were to unplug the device while it was synching, you could end up with these "ghost" songs. Or as someone else mentioned, it happened while adding songs while iTunes was performing other activities... So be patient.

=*= This can be a real pain because even if you were to try and add the songs again on top of the ghost songs it wont work because the device already thinks they're being loaded to the device even though they're never going to get there...

=*= There are multiple options for resolving the ghosting songs problem, but really, honestly, the easiest approach is just to take manual control of the music on the device, delete them, and re-add them...

I see there are no responses...I have the same issue and my only difference is that I am using a MBP not a Windows PC. I will continue to troubleshoot and let you know if I find something that works. My songs are in my library and I just want the "ghost" songs out of my device listing. Are you looking to do the same?

So far the only way I have found to get rid of them is to manually mange music, delete entire library on your iPhone and then add the songs back you want to have on your iPhone. I only want/need a portion since I use subscription music services. Good luck! Let me know if this helped you.

I would prefer not to have to completely delete the library and start from scratch. Many of the albums in the library are loaded from my CD's and I had to manually enter in much of the information for the songs and would rather not go through all of the that again. I am still trying different things I will let you know if any of them work.

I travel a lot so streaming from the cloud is not always an option, especially on a plane, so I need to have my music and videos saved on the device. I had this same problem with ghost songs not going away on my iPhone, and videos that were dragged over on my iPad but still grayed out. I'd Sync in iTunes time and time again and items would still stay gray...

Hope this helps. The ghost songs dissapear after several intents. I've used DiskAid and went to the file directory in the iphone (5). Deleted everything in music and purchased directory and the ghosts are gone.

I got mine to work after navigating through all the panes, I noticed that I had "Convert Higher Bit Rate Songs to ____ AAC" checked (Underscore being your selected bitrate). So my computer was having issues converting my high bitrate songs down to AAC 128. As soon as I unchecked that and resynced my iphone 5 all the songs began to transfer back over to my phone. Hope this helps some of you!

Just chiming in to say that I had this same problem, I would drag music into my IPhone after updating and it wouldn't show up and then when I checked the "On my IPhone" tab I found a majority of them there greyed out. I did what Christy suggested and selected all of the songs and deleted them from this box. They stayed in my actual Itunes but were 'deleted' from the phone I suppose. When I tried to drag songs in again Itunes said they copied and sure enough they showed up on my phone. Thanks for the help Christy =] I hope this worked for the OP too
