I am rather new to using blender, and I have run into a bit of a problem. My boss has been using a 3D scanner, and I am supposed to import the results of the scans. I am able to import them into Blender, however there are no textures or materials. It just shows up as White. How do I import the textures onto the mesh?
Blender imports obj files with textures just fine with Blender Internal renderer as the active renderer. But importing obj files with texture while Cycles is the active renderer is currently not supported. With Cycles you have to create a new material with your texture, as shown above by @MCunha.
So first thing to check: does the *.mtl file exist? And if that's the case and the textures doesn't import: are the texture paths in the *.mtl file relative or absolute? Open the *.mtl file in wordpad for example. Have a look at the line(s) with map_kd at the front.

There was no model for a kegerator, but there was a chest freezer. After modifyingthe dimensions and textures I got a black chest freezer. I then added a cube shelfand rotated it so the back of the shelf was facing outwards. I adjusted the sizeto be slightly larger then the chest freezer and modified the texture. I thenput the shelf inside of the chest freezer model so that it looks like a woodencollar. Finally, I added four garden faucets and placed them in the woodencollar I just added. As you can see from the render it looks pretty close to thereal thing (especially when the floorplan is zoomed out).

Imported objects may have references to one or several textures. The program will try to find them in the folder containing the selected file. If a texture is not found, you will be asked to locate it. The texture name will be shown at the top of the Open File window. You can also opt to skip opening textures and simply use the materials from the built-in library.
The program limits the size of images imported as textures. If an image is larger than the selected value, it will be scaled down. The aspect ratio will be maintained. For example, when you select "1024", you limit the size of the bigger texture side to 1024 pixels.
Higher values let you have high-resolution textures with more details preserved. With lower values, the program will render objects in the 3D view faster. So, you can choose what is more important in your work.
