For those who don't know, although there is an offline mode in GTA V on PC, if you go many days without connecting to the internet, the game will request you to connect to the internet to authenticate. If you do not have an internet connection when this is required, the game will not allow you to play the story mode.
I have Max Payne 3 in my Steam Library. The game is listed as unsupported but I've seen people playing it on Youtube and on here. I installed the game via steam and but I get the message "Unable to locate the Rockstar Games Launcher, please try reinstalling the game." when I run it. I tried to run it via default Proton, Experimental and GE as well. I also tried installing the Rockstar Launcher through desktop to see if the game detects it but that didn't work. According to this post the launcher is supposed to install itself along with the game but that doesn't happen for me. The tutorials I've found are not very clear and/or don't work for me.
Shouldn't it just work off of the one that I've already installed? I'm curious why Rockstar launcher wants to take up more space in my hard drive when I already have like three versions downloaded, it downloaded for Max Payne 3, GTA v, and Red Dead 2 why do I need so many rockstar launchers?
Over the years, we have seen a number of publishers/developers break away from Steam in order to set up their own game launchers and sell games directly to customers. In the case of EA, all games are only available through Origin on PC, while others like Ubisoft and Bethesda are happy to sell on their own platform in addition to others. Now, Rockstar Games is joining the ranks with its own game launcher.
The launcher comes with a free copy of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas in an effort to draw people in. The launcher also needs to be open on your PC in order to play the Steam version of Grand Theft Auto V, similarly to how Ubisoft handles its own games on Steam.
There have been some issues with this new system already. Some GTA V players were quick to notice that the Steam version could no longer be played in offline mode due to the Rockstar launcher. However, this was apparently a bug with the launcher itself and will be addressed.
Other Rockstar games like Bully, Max Payne 3, LA Noire, GTA: Vice City and GTA: San Andreas are also part of the new launcher. However, other games like GTA IV, Max Payne 1 & 2, Manhunt and Midnight Club 2 are not supported.
At this point, we know that Rockstar is gearing up to debut Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC. This new launcher could end up being a big part of that plan, although it is difficult to say what this means for future Rockstar games on Steam. The studio may be happy with an Ubisoft arrangement where the games are sold in multiple places and all require the Rockstar Launcher, or we may see an EA-like approach where all future games are exclusive to the first-party platform.
Still on my "Hate Take Two don't support with Rockstar content" craze, I downloaded Max Payne 3 Mephisto, installed it, and I can't play the game without signing in to Social Club. Only way to bypass it is to go offline (Disable internet) and sign in locally. Is there a crack or something to play with internet on without social club nagging me? Game Version: 1.0.0.216
So the next step was of course to restart the game entirely. Hit the Steam button for the Overlay, tell it to exit the game. Then reload it. Hooray! This got it to install the launcher and my face lights up with joy and anticipation to drive around and do silly things. Now it tells me I need an activation code. What code? Nothing told me I needed a code when I purchased it on Steam. Thinking it's a launcher error, I reloaded and it then broke completely. The launcher just didn't load any more and it dumped me back into my Steam Library. Tried three times, same problem. Tried a reboot, the issue persisted.
At this point, I'm annoyed. I think anyone would be. I decided to swap it over to Proton Experimental (tip: here's a guide on swapping Proton versions on Steam Deck), and that actually worked! I could get the launcher to load without fail through multiple tries but I still needed a code. Of course, normally, the desktop Steam client would've had a pop-up to tell you that you have a CD Key and the game might ask for it - no such thing happens on the Steam Deck.
Remember that there is a goon trying to use a grenade launcher to kill you (after a vehicle tries to kill both of you). The grenade launcher is the key on this chapter as you can get many big time bonuses from it. Remember to kill that goon, and grab the grenade launcher after that. (It should have about 4-6 grenades on the grenade launcher without backup ammo)
Next section where you split up with Passos and he is spotted by the goons: This is the best place to use the grenade launcher. Equip the grenade launcher, aim at the goons that are in front of you (about 5 goons stay close to each other), and shoot! If all of them die in the explosion, you will earn at least 50 seconds to your clock! Kill the remaining enemies with the other guns you have.
Another section after Passos is caught by a goon: After killing the goon that stands beside Passos, on your left, there are a lot of enemies so shoot 1 grenade to there. Hopefully, it can kill some of the goons to earn extra time. (Make sure that you have at least 2-3 grenades left on the grenade launcher after the battle on this part)
Wait for Passos to catch the attention of the sniper, and move to the cover in front of you. The first set of goons will come from the door below the sniper. Equip the grenade launcher, and aim at sniper position. When you shoot the grenade, it should touch the goons on the stairs, and kill all of them. (30+ seconds bonus time)
This is the most difficult chapter in this game, and you begin without painkillers! This time, you have to kill all 3 enemies in the same room before you have a chance to grab the painkiller... On the underground car park, if you get the grenade launcher, it should be easier for you to obtain the Platinum medal.
Now grab the grenade launcher on the left side of this car park, and blow up all vehicles and enemies coming from the gate that is in front of you (you can refill the grenade through the ammo crate here).
Compared to previous chapter, this one should be slightly easier, but you still have to stay alert and use more time in some tough gunfights. I won't recommend you to use the grenade launcher on this chapter as it can instant kill you if you don't use it well. If you can use it well, you can earn 1-2 minutes before you go up.
Grenade launcher will make the first half (before you need to shoot the grate to get inside) a lot easier, and you can earn few more minutes. Just make sure you don't shoot the grenade too close to you, or you will die without last man standing!
- Chapter 10 Checkpoint 12
This can be done at the beginning when enemies get out of the vehicle and throw the grenade. Just shoot it and reload the checkpoint. You can also grind for "Guesswork", "Blow Out" and "Wreckage" in this checkpoint.
- Chapter 14 Checkpoint 10
Becker (Boss) will shoot a grenade from his grenade launcher and you are forced to blow it up. More will being shoot from the grenade launcher when you deal with the U.F.E.
This error can be displayed in two different wordings to different people. The first one you can see in the picture above. The second one simply reads Game launcher error. Please try again later. Code: 7002.1. Faulty Drivers and an outdated game can be two of the many reasons for this error.
You can also restart the Rockstar Games launcher. This can also help the situation as this is the most crucial component in launching a game. If the launcher did not boot properly this can also affect the game.
Corrupted game files can also be the reason why we are seeing the error. This can be a really frustrating because if the important files get corrupted you might have to reinstall the game entirely. This can be fixed by verifying our files with the launcher.
If we verify our files to the launcher, it is going to scan the game folder for missing, corrupted, or deleted and then reinstall the file again. This can reassure us that our files are not corrupted.
Now your files are going to be checked and fixed if this was causing the error to be triggered.Launch Rockstar Games Launcher as AdministratorAs this is the launcher of the game it needs to function properly in order to launcher the game without any errors. It cannot do that if windows are preventing it from accessing all of the necessary files. We can prevent this by giving the launcher Administrator Privileges.
Restart the old container with ./launcher start app . Wait a few minutes until it is back up.
Now shut it down again with ./launcher stop app . After that tail the logs to see if it was a clean one:

I will say I did manage to get 1 dynamic loading screen to show up by switching the launcher to go into Story Mode automatically, bypassing the main menu screen shown above. This doesn't completely solve the issue though, as the static loading screens show up still.
