Subject: Next DCAN meeting and Climate Change workshop event -
Monday 20 September
Hi DCAN members and
supporters,
Below are details of
our next meeting and information about a climate change workshop for science
teachers which DCAN members are invited to attend.
DCAN Monthly
meeting Monday September 20th 7pm
We are beginning to plan DCAN's
involvement in both the Replace Hazelwood campaign and
the State Election. Please join us at our next monthly meeting
this Monday 20th September at Northcote Library (32-38 Separation

To date we have
these plans:
- Participation in the 10.10.10 protest at
Hazelwood
- Leafleting in letterboxes and at shopping
centres in support of the Zero Carbon Plan for Australia for Stationary
Energy. If you don't know about this plan you can download it at www.beyondzeroemissions.org/
- Holding a candidates' forum (Climate Change Q
and A) to hear candidates' understanding and policy on climate change
- A local rally to present our local member in
Northcote, Fiona Richardson with Replace Hazelwood petitions

election campaign.

Invitation to Climate
Change: Spreading the GOOD News - A Workshop for Science Teachers
DCAN
members and supporters are inivited to attend a workshop for science
teachers interested in talking publicly about climate change and the actions
needed to avoid its worst effects on this Monday 20th September (9:30am- 2pm). Although
it is primarily aimed at science teachers, members of climate action groups are
also welcome to participate. For details and registration see
below.
In short, it
is a day for teachers interested in helping to educate the community on the
science of climate change. Because we feel that many people are rather
disillusioned by the lack of any real action on the political front, we would
like to take a more positive approach this time and put the emphasis on what we,
as a country, CAN do about the problem - notably ways of moving to large scale
renewable energy sources and cutting emissions in other ways.
We are
pleased to have Dr Graeme
Pearman as our opening speaker.
He was chief of the CSIRO Atmospheric Research until 2002 when he resigned amid
controversy over the right of CSIRO scientists to speak publicly on matters such
as climate change. Since then he has spoken and consulted widely on the
issue.
You can email us at sci...@optusnet.com.au for more information or to
register for the workshop.
Details: Monday 20th September 2010, 9:30
am to 2:30 pm at Kew High School, High St, Kew (Vic).
Cost:
FREE (Including lunch). See flyer attached.
Hope to see you on
Monday!
Kind regards
Beck and
Carol, for the DCAN team
