Hi,

Don't forget to turn off your lights for Earth Hour this Saturday. Individuals, businesses and organisations can sign up for Earth Hour 2010 by visiting the Earth Hour website (www.earthhour.org) and committing to turn off their lights on Saturday 27 March from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm, and continue to take action to reduce emissions.

You can go into the draw to win a 3KW Solar Panel system for your home. In addition, individiual participants can resolve to reduce their ecological footprint determined by using the Earth Hour Footprint Calculator http://www.earthhour.org.au/earth-hour-wwf/footprint-calculator/footprint-calculator .

Darebin City Council has officially signed up for Earth Hour and we will be turning off non-essential lighting including façade lighting at the Darebin Civic Centre and Darebin Arts and Entertainment Centre.

Activities on Saturday are The Federation Square Earth Hour Event (see below) and Darebin Climate Action Now (DCAN) event in Preston. See attached flyer for details.
Come to Fed Square with your family and friends for a picnic. Bring a rug, some food, and good company to watch the Melbourne city skyline and landmarks implement ‘lights off’ for an hour.

You are encouraged to walk, ride, take public transport or carpool to the event where possible. You are also encouraged to bring a zero-waste picnic. Bring beverages in reusable bottles, use washable cutlery and plates, and avoid over-packaged foods.

Whilst celebrating the symbolic hour of darkness, make an Earth Hour resolution to continue to reduce your environmental footprint.

Yann Arthus-Bertrand’s movie, Home will be screened which has a very clear message: we have a greater impact on the Earth than it can bear. There will also be entertainment during the hour of darkness.

Have a great Earth Hour weekend!
