Just recently found Timpani and am using it in a new campaign I'm
playing in, but I have a question, as I guess I am doing something
wrong.

Is there a trick to the formulas in adding Feats to the spreadsheet/
program? I am trying to add a couple from the Forgotten Realms
Handbook and every time I input the data (using similar feat effects
from PHB feats) it tells me that it is an invalid formula.

For example, I want to add the Feat "Blooded" which grants +2 to
Initiative Rolls and +2 to Spot checks. As such it is seemingly
"close" to the feat Alertness which grants (as listed on the FeatD
sheet) "+2 listen and spot". But inputting "+2 initiative and spot"
yields the invalid formula message.

Just curious what I may be doing wrong... and may have to smack myself
if it ends up being something blatantly obvious.

The only other option I can come up with is if you have an updated
sheet/add on that includes data from FR and some of the other D&D
3.0/3.5 books (though I couldn't find one on the site).

Thanks for any assistance you can offer.

Excel is reading the + at the beginning of the entry and trying to interpret the rest as an arithmetic formula instead of plain text. To force it to take it as text, type a single quote (aka apostrophe) at the beginning:
  '+2 initiative and spot
It won't display in the cell, but it'll still be there in the "formula". If you double-click the description for Alertness to show its formula, you'll see that there's a single quote hiding at the beginning of that too.

As you probably know, you'll also have to add an entry to the Feat Bonuses table on the SkillD sheet so the bonuses are actually applied.

Unfortunately not. The other books weren't released under Open Game Content license, so their copyrights don't permit redistributing the data.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Cheers,

- Pam

Doh! I should have known that.

What version of Timpani do you have? In the most recent (35.238), the Feat Bonuses table starts at cell B147 on SkillD (not SkillRanksD). The version is listed on the Help sheet or below the logo on Char Sheet 1.

Cheers,

I do not have any data below Row 86 on the SkillD Worksheet.

Nor can I find the Version number on the Help Sheet or under the logo on Char Sheet 1.

I downloaded the program for D&D 3.5 last week, and it saved the file as "Timpani12" (if that helps).

If there is a newer/updated version, I would love to get a copy.

Would you mind greatly sending me a copy of your Timpani file, so I can take a look?
The version number has been included just about forever, so I'm not sure what's going on. In any case, you can get the latest from

I've attached the copy of the version I was using/downloaded last week.

Let me just say now that I LOVE the version I got from the like you sent me... it is awsome!!

Now, let me see if I can get the Feat I'm wanting added properly... may be asking another question or two soon.  :)

And since it is payday... I will be registering my copy of the great program.

Hats off to the folks that spent the time and effort making this and thanks for your help!!!

Thanks for the file. I see the problem: that's the version for 3e rather than for 3.5e. Not only does it have the wrong rules for some things in 3.5, but it's much older and doesn't have as many features (I stopped working on the 3e version shortly after the first Timpani for 3.5 was released).

Assuming you're actually playing 3.5e, the new spreadsheet will be much better for you. Enjoy!

Um, having a problem with Registering my copy of Timpani.

I click on the "Send $15.00 by" link on the Shareware Tab and it takes me to PayPal. But the PayPal keeps saying there is a problem and to check back later. It has been doing this for the past five days.

I know the problem is not with my PayPal account, as I have used it for other transactions.

Is there an e-mail address I can send the money to via PayPal without using the link in the program?

Thanks!

Thanks for trying to register! I'm sorry the links aren't working; I'll check into that. In the meantime, you can send money with PayPal to this address, tim...@dndtools.com. That's all those links do anyway.

Thanks!
