Is this tool still being supported? Also, I'm looking to expand the available space for custom mundane items.

I am VERY familiar with Timpani, having added additional classes, races, feats etc.

But I cannot find any of the formulae making the Lute selections. I cannot find any hidden worksheets or columns or rows.

Please help me increase the daily life items my PCs end up with.

Hi, Aaron!

I'm happy to answer any questions, although I haven't had a lot of time to work on Timpani or Lute lately -- and even more, I haven't had a copy of Excel to work on it in. I'd love to know what systems it still works on, though. What OS and Excel versions are you using?

Lute is a lot simpler than Timpani, but it does use scripts for the basic functionality. It also has a bunch of hidden sheets holding the item data. On the Help sheet, click "Show Data Sheets" at the top. If you want to add everyday items like ladders and canteens, I'd put them into the Alchemical Items list, to ensure that Lute doesn't try to enchant them (flaming +1 bucket, anyone?). You can add more rows to the table; just be sure to insert them in the middle.

Please don't hesitate to write back if this isn't clear, you need more help, or you can answer my question about where Lute works.

Cheers,
- Pam

I am using MS Office 365 Excel and Timpani and Lute actually work better now than they did on Office 2019. Fewer errors or warnings about macros.

I found the line about adding lines in the middle after sending my first message, and that did what I want, though your reply has me WANTING to put a few tools and mundanes in the weapons section. I may add the flaming bucket as an homage to you and your hard work on these programs.

I tried unhiding sheets in Lute and could not find any. I have to tell you, I have learned SO MUCH about Excel over the years by peeking behind the curtain to see how you did things when I wanted to add a custom race or class. So thank you for that.

Have you considered making a version for 5e? I've thought about it, and I might if I find the time.

Thanks,
Aaron

Glad to hear you got the items added. The sheets with various item and character data are the only ones that start out hidden in Lute, so if you're seeing those, it sounds like you already have everything shown.

Sadly, I haven't been able to play D&D lately, so while I have the 5e books, I've never used them. It's hard to know how to make a character sheet or spreadsheet useful without using it myself -- not to mention, it's harder to justify the time to my family. I do have a 4e version about half done, but it's been half done for years now. The most recent development work I tried was running the 3.5e version of Timpani in OpenOffice, since I don't have MS Office anymore, but at least at the time it didn't import well and would have been a ton of work to get working again. That's probably what I'd work on if I had the time: moving away from MS Office, maybe even into Google Sheets at this point. But it's a big "if". :\

Maybe you and I can start a shared Google Sheets project and work on it together? I'm playing 5e and getting better at character creation. But I think it would be awesome to maintain the Timpani branding, rather than steal your idea and hard work in 3.5 version. I've had some luck with converting some Excel sheets to Google, though I feel it is more limited. I do like that it is available to anyone, especially since MS has been closer-hold with Office than they once were.
