I’ve used Timeslice for many years on my Mac Snow Leopard and have loved it - I've used it almost every day.  But I just got Yosemite, and am having a heck of a time understand ing how to use Timeslice 4.6.  After about an hour I finally was able to get Timeslice to open and started configuring it and entering past time information.  After about an hour Timeslice crashed.  I had set it to save automatically every 10 minutes, so I thought: no problem.  But I couldn’t find the saved file anywhere.  In Timeslice>Preferences>Saving when I clicked on “Reveal Database file” and tried to open the Timeslice.sqlite document, Yosemite said “no application set to open”.  When I tried to select Timeslice to open it, Timeslice was greyed out.  In the Preferences>Saving window it gave to a path to the file and said it was in my user Library folder - but I don’t have a user Library folder on my system!

So I decided to start over, but again am not able to find a way to open up a new Time Record.  The Time>New Time Record menu choices are both greyed out.  I can’t figure out what I did originally (after fooling around for 30 minutes) to open up a new record.

When I was able to work with Timeslice originally, I was disappointed that I couldn’t just highlight an old record and click a “Copy and start a new time record” button as I could with my older version of Timeslice (v 2.8.9).  Yes, I was able to figure out how to set up the Control Panel as per the Timeslice Help> New Records instructions, but it was not as convenient as the old Timeslice.  Also, I notice all the records are organized with the new records on top, as opposed to the older version where the newer files were on the bottom.  Is there any way to change the order in the new version?

But my most pressing problem is simply - how do I start a new time record !!!!  I’ve created a new job as per your “QuickStart” instructions, but no instructions of how to open that job and start entering time records!

  Thanks for any help.

Tom,

It sounds as if you upgraded from an older TimeSlice to version 4.6?  Otherwise v4.6 works just the same on any version of the OS.

TimeSlice 4.6 uses one main database.  It is not something you open by selecting File -> Open in the menu; there’s only one database and it's always accessed by TimeSlice.  That’s why you received the message you did from the OS.

You do have a Library folder on your system, but you have to know the OS trick to access it (hold down the Option key when selecting the Go menu in the Finder).

I’m guessing when TimeSlice crashed it took the data with it, or made it unusable.

To start a new time record, select one (and only one) folder, and click the New button.

To utilize the old “Copy and start a new time record” functionality, see New Records or New Records Templates in the help.

Thanks,
Bill

Bill -

Thanks - I finally figured it out.

Is there any way to reverse the order of the time records, so that the newest ones are on the bottom of the list (as with my old Timeslice 2.6) rather than on top?

Tom,
Have you tried clicking on the column header?  Same when viewing files with the Finder.
