Timeslice 4.6.2 (2) on Mac

I usually have a mini window open showing Timeslice counting the time. But when I need to change the record to another job, I first enlarge the window, and at that moment the window disappears. The only solution I can find is to quit Timeslice by right-clicking on the icon and then to restart it, then the big window showing all current jobs appears.
Presumably I should reinstall it?

TIA

You could first try version 4.6.3, or the Mac App Store version:

Thanks,
Bill

Do I delete the current version first? I have memories of having more than one version and getting confused.

Yes, just drag the current app to the Trash, but just in case, don’t empty the Trash until you have the new version up and running.

Thanks. It looks as if it has no serial number - does this mean I have to buy it again?

What has no serial number?

The version called Mac DEMO that that link led me to, says it's the new version without a serial number.
Or should I choose time Slice 6 (when it was sold by Kagi)?

TimeSlice 4.6 (when sold by Kagi) is version 4.6.3, a free upgrade.
The TimeSlice from the Mac App Store is $19.99.
It’s up to you.  Whichever you prefer.

Thank you, the original is what I wanted. It says 'When it *was* sold by Kagi', which makes it sound outdated so I didn't choose it first time round.
Now I have set it up, it sees all my files and is 4.6.3, but it still has the behaviour I complained about: I can't move from reduced window to big window, it just disappears though the app is still running.

Version 4.6.3 is outdated.  It has been replaced by TimeSlice 4.7.7 <https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/timeslice/id682146667?mt=12>
When you try the TimeSlice DEMO, does it work better?  If so, you may want to upgrade to version 4.7.7.  It’s up to you.

It sounds like your window has zoomed to a different screen. Try selecting Windows/Zoom, or use a window management tool to resize/move the window with a keystroke. (I use SizeUp, but there are lots out there... you should be able to get a 1 month trial of any of these tools, long enough to get your window fixed :) I couldn't get by without SizeUp or something like it.)

Thank You Cameron!  You may be right; I just assumed it was one of the bugs that have been fixed in the MAS version.

Thanks, Cameron - that works! I will bear the upgrade in mind though.
I do have another query but perhaps I will start another subject.

Further to the above, I gave up trying to filter (see separate thread) because I don't think it is possible where I want it.

I am now, after upgrading TimeSlice, getting an error message "Could not merge changes". This seems to mean that the new version uses my old data records, but when I add a new one, it can't process it. I tried to quite Timeslice and got the message that changes would be lost "Quit anyway?" so I didn't quit.

Any ideas on what I could do here?

TIA

Having deleted two copies of TimeSlice, one dated May 16 2016 and one dated 2013,I have now downloaded the newer one again but get the message "The alias “TimeSlice 4.6” can’t be opened because the original item can’t be found." It gives me the option to delete the alias, but I don't know what the alias is. Moreover, one of the two icons in the dock keeps bouncing and gives the message 'could not merge changes'.

Where are my time records and can I somehow get this working again?

TIA

Hi Margaret,

Did you follow these instructions when you upgraded?

I didn't do that, no. Does it apply to the older version? I did not get the $19 app, but the one described as 4.6 when sold through Kagi.
I realize I must have messed something up, though. I deleted the old one to avoid the problem I had in the past of more than one version side by side.

Yes, what I referenced was for the Mac App Store version. Wasn’t sure what you upgraded to.

Verify that you only have one copy of TimeSlice on your Mac.  If you have more, drag them to the Trash and delete the Trash.  Ideally the one version you retain on your Mac is the latest release.  Restarting your Mac may also help.

When you say 'ideally the one version you retain...' you mean I should not delete both? If I delete all and then download the new (old) one again, will it work? Have already tried that. I am worried about losing my records, as I don't know where they are (but I could live without them if they're gone). I will try the restart though.

Thanks, that has worked. Timeslice had to be force quitted before I could restart, then I trashed the version after restart and downloaded again.
I might try the new app, but bear in mind the procedure to move to it.

Thanks for the help.

Crash logs don’t say much helpful unfortunately. I suggest you restart your Mac, and also upgrade to version 4.6.3 or later:

I restarted the Mac and now i use Version 4.6.3: same Problem: TS

i deleted the File com.modesittsoftware.TimeSlice4 – so it works.
But i think, there s only one Problem in this File: what can it be?
Please sorry for my cruel English.
Thank You for helping me to find the bad Settings.

Hi Daniel,

Do you remember what you changed on your Mac to cause TimeSlice to start crashing?  Something changed, so you may want to look at what you recently did on your Mac.

You can also try deleting the preference file.  Quit TimeSlice, and delete the TimeSlice files as shown below.

Good luck!

-Bill
