For reasons unknown, TimeSlice may continually ask for your serial number when operating under the Yosemite operating system.  This does not occur with TimeSlice purchased from the Mac App Store, because that version does not require a serial number.   We cannot replicate the problem, so we are unable to correct something that isn't broken (for us).  At this point the best option is to upgrade to the Mac App Store TimeSlice.  With the Mac App Store TimeSlice you do not need a serial number, and all future upgrades are free.  In the meantime we will continue to research this issue and post any updates as they occur.  Thank you.

Hi Bill,

It just started for me this morning. The only change since Friday is that I applied the latest Apple update to my Yosemite.

I'll grab the app store version as you recommend. Any special gotchas I should watch for when switching to that version?

Hi Barry,

It is weird, why it happens, and when it happens.  Glad to be rid of that bit of functionality.

The one downside of the Mac App Store version is it doesn’t have Auto-Tracking.  Auto-Tracking is a functionality that Apple does not allow with apps sold thru the App Store (part of their “sandboxing” philosophy).  Otherwise, it has bug fixes and other improvements over the serial number version.

Oh yeah, if you haven’t already be sure to read this post: <https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/timeslice-tech-support/GAlwAIVJkz8>.

Hi Bill,

I just did the upgrade. Before I did that I archived the non app store version of the application.

I don't see my data. What is the next step?

I think I got it. I moved my old Library database into the new container one. My records are now there.

The files I moved were TimeSlice.sqlite, TimeSlice.sqlite-shm, and TimeSlice.sqlite-wal.

Is that the right way?

It didn't quite work. I lost most all of my preferences. This included the default setting of columns when I export.

I've not lost anything critical, as far as I can tell. But I have a feeling I've not done the switch correctly.

Barry,

I believe that’s correct.  I will look into this more.  I didn’t realize you had to move anything.

Barry,

It is a hassle I agree, but not too sure how to avoid it.  No one really described it in detail as you did.  I’ll post more details, but here is the gist of it:

Old pref location followed by new pref location below.  I believe you can copy the old pref, rename it, and place it where the new pref is located.

Sorry for the issues.

Thanks,
Bill

Are you saying if TimeSlice requires that I register my already registered product is for me to purchase TimeSlice again in the App Store? Or is there a way to move over my application status to the App Store?

I own TimeSlice 4.6.1 (2)

An option to consider if the old TimeSlice is giving you trouble:  upgrade to the Mac App Store TimeSlice.
